LUCHA VAVOOM CELEBRATES HALLOWEEN WITH THE ADDITION OF
“MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000” CREATOR JOEL HODGESON
LOS ANGELES, October 5, 2007 _ It’s time to dust off the lucha libre mask and don that sparkly spandex because for the first time in its five-year existence Lucha VaVOOM will be taking place on All Hallow’s Eve, October 31. The three-day Halloween-week extravaganza entitled “Luchadores are Go!” runs from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, the Day of the Dead, at the historic Mayan Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. For the 16th performance, “Mystery Science Theatre 3000” creator Joel Hodgeson has signed on to deliver wise cracks all night long. Tickets are available now on Ticketweb.com and at participating locations, listed below. While the dust has barely settled from Lucha’s sold-out five-year anniversary celebration in August, co-creators Rita D’Albert and Liz Fairbairn aren’t wasting anytime preparing for the tri-annual convergence of beauties and brutes and are pulling out all the stops. In honor of the Pagan holiday, a Halloween dance party, fueled by resident DJ Senor Amor, will immediately follow the masked Mexican wrestling and saucy striptease; Dia de los Muertos will be observed with the addition of traditional skeleton wrestlers, Los Calaveras.
In typical fashion, the best lucha libre wrestlers the world has to offer will square off in four huge matches. The menacing Chupacabra, the feisty mini chicken, the deceptive Poubelle twins, the flamboyant Cassandro and the ferocious Felino triumphantly return to the ring, joined by newcomers Black Tiger Mask and Rayman, direct from outer space.
Body slams and piledrivers aren’t the only thing that will get the blood pumping. The lovely buxoticas of Lucha VaVOOM will be in full effect for some super-action-striptease acts. Gender-bender Karis, NYC’s Leroi the Girl Boy, hometown tassel master Lucy Fur, show-stopper Ursulina and others will raise the burlesque bar and the temperature.
In addition to MST3K’s Hodgeson, hilarious commentary and play-by-play will be doled out by Master of Ceremonies Blaine Capatch (Mind of Mencia, Mad TV) and his comedic brethren. Spongebob Squarepants’ Tom Kenny, ESPN’s Cheap Seats brothers The Sklars and Simpsons’ scribe Dana Gould are all scheduled to stop in to drop some witty retorts on the action.
