News and Notes from the NJPW G-1 Special in the U.S.A. Press Conference in Long Beach, CA

New Japan Pro Wrestling held a press conference this afternoon to make several announcements about their upcoming G-1 Special in the U.S.A. events in Long Beach, CA on July 1st and 2nd, 2017, including broadcast details, a free press conference in Gardena, roster announcements, and more.

The press conference was streamed live on the NJPW English Facebook page, and was hosted by Christian Cole. The press conference.took place at the Westin in Long Beach, CA. Cole went over information about tickets selling out quickly and the current campaign NJPW is running on Twitter, with the winners getting free tickets.

One of the first announcements made involved broadcast details for the G-1 Special in the U.S.A. Night 1 of the event, taking place on July 1st in Long Beach, CA, will be broadcast live on AXS TV. Night 2 of the event, taking place on July 2nd and also being held in Long Beach, CA, will streamed live on NJPW World. It was also mentioned that AXS will be broadcasting reruns of the event throughout the months of July and August, although no further details were given. The first IWGP United States Champion will be crowned in a G-1 Special Tournament on July 1st and July 2nd in Long Beach, CA. Jay Lethal and Hangman Page were the first two participants announced. In addition to the IWGP United States Championship, the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, the IWGP Intercontinental Championship, the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship, and the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship will all be defended during the weekend’s events.

The roster for the G-1 Special in the I.S.A. was also announced. Wrestlers scheduled to appear include Justin Thunder Liger, David Finlay, Juice Robinson, Kushida, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Michael Elgin, the Tempura Boyz, Jay White, Billy Gunn, Yoshitatsu, Roppongi Vice (Rocky Romero & Beretta), Will Ospreay, Tomohiro Ishii, Kazuchika Okada, Hiromu Takahashi, EVIL, Sanada, Bushi, Tetsuya Naito, Zack Sabre Jr., War Machine (Hanson & Raymond Rowe), Jay Lethal, The Briscoes (Jay & Mark Briscoe), Volador Jr., Dragon Lee, Titan, the Bullet Club of The Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson), Cody Rhodes, Marty Scurll, the Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Roa), Hangman Page, Bad Luck Fale, Yujiro Takahashi, and Kenny Omega,

Cody Rhodes, the Young Bucks, and Kenny Omega were in attendance and answered questions from Christian Cole about various topics ranging from current events in NJPW as well as the upcoming G-1 Special in the U.S.A. shows. The answers were done in character, with some moments of seriousness every once in awhile. No questions were taken from reporters.
