[Recap] Chaos Column of QPW’s Quintapalooza on October 8, 2016

10/8/16 QPro “Quintapalooza” — American Legion Post #241, Baldwin Park

A combination of a familiar face from a recent PWG show (Matt Riddle), the postponement of the next FCW event, and only UIPW to contend with that night, contributed to the large crowd that came to the event.

1 – Sage Sin & Buggy Nova (w/ Chuckie) v. The Killer Baes (Laura James & Heather Monroe)
A great gimmick match that saw Sage get a face full of Laura’s twerking butt, and Chuckie “choking out” Heather.  Things got really serious late, but Sage was able to “spit poison mists” at both Baes, allowing Buggy to get in a Crucifix or Cradle rollup, rolled into a Side Schoolgirl Cover to pin Laura.

2 – Joey Ryan v. B-Boy
The two veterans really put on a show, although “The Hot Tub Guy” may want to make sure he hits the shower to wash off the baby oil, before stepping into that hot tub for his next wrestling review.  Great back-and-forth action, which ended with B-Boy hitting a 3-move combo, caped with a Piledriver for the pin.

3 – Women’s Title Tournament Semi 1:  Christina Von Eerie v. Shayna Baszler
Probably the most technical match of the card, as there were plenty of mat wrestling, to go with the stiff strikes, and slams.  Shayna was able to throw CVE off the ropes, and locked in an Armbar for the tapout submission win.

4 – Women’s Title Tournament Semi 2:  Hudson Envy v. Delilah Doom
This women’s match had a more balanced mix of mat wrestling, stiff strikes, and all the slams that the fans could handle.  Hudson was able to catch Delilah to counter a corner move, and nailed her with the Air Raid Crash for the pin.

5 – “PP-H.A.T.E.” (Ray Rosas & Peter Avalon) v. “Vermin Monsters” (Yuma & Kevin Martenson)
No surprise that these four put on a great back-and-forth match, complete with plenty of team moves, and high spots.  However, Kevin pinned Ray, & PPA pinned Yuma….at the same time!  As a result, Referee Alan G.(?) ruled it a double-draw.  The official ruling may be the said double-draw, but the fans used their dollars to “out-vote” Vermin over H.A.T.E..

6 – Kenny Lush v. Luster The Legend
Another even, well-balanced match, with some outside brawling.  Luster was able to get Kenny to tapout to what looked like a Texas Cloverleaf submission, then got an offer from Kenny about sharing his East Vancouver, BC home, should things continue to go south in the states.  I’m pretty sure which U.S. presidential candidate Kenny doesn’t want the people here to vote for.

SM – Women’t Title Tournament Final:  Shayna Baszler (w/ Nicole Savoy) v. Hudson Envy (w/ CVE)
A very even match, with both women beating and slamming the crap out of each other.  There were a handful of moments, where Nicole & CVE got involved.  Then Nicole smacked her crutch across Hudson’s back in an effort to help out “The Queen of Spades”, and that really got the attention of CVE.  As CVE grabbed one of Nicole’s crutches & chased her off ringside, Hudson hit the Air Raid Crash for the title-clinching pin.

M – Heavyweight Championship:  Adam Thornstowe (c) v. Matt Riddle
Not only was the spot-fest match very even, but the fans were equally divided between supporting Adam, & supporting Matt.  Adam was able to overcome the bumps from Matt’s big moves, rolling a Spike Tombstone Piledriver into the Top Rope Double-Stomp for the pin, & another successful title defense.

Overall, a very strong Q Pro card.  It’s hard to tell if the outcome of the Women’s Title Tournament would’ve been different, had Nicole not tear her ACL, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a feud between those two members of “The Queen’s Army”, and Hudson & CVE, when Nicole is able to compete again.  The men’s matches were very good, which only complemented the great women’s matches throughout the weekend.

“The Chaos Column” returns in November, for the EWF in Covina on Veterans Day, & the AWS on Thanksgiving Saturday.  In the meantime, if you’re heading to the L.A. Comic Con on Halloween Weekend, come find me in the exhibit hall, or roaming the lobby, taking cosplay photos.
