Jay Cal’s View #129

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla is tonight, but all the talk is about BOLA.  AWS will be going on hiatus.  The latest health update on Jon Ian and EWF’s “Baby Bull” is in the NEWS!  Plus updates on the United Wrestling Network and all the matches this weekend.

More Names have been announced for PWG’s BOLA
“I think Pro Wrestling Guerrilla possibly just announced the single greatest tournament in the history of North American wrestling. BOLA 2015 with amazing U.S. & U.K. talent plus Lucha Underground’s Pentagón Jr AAA, Fenix Animo Triple A, Drago, Aerostar, Jack Evans & Angelico,” friend to SCU Kevin Kleinrock perhaps just hit the nail on the head. After announcing the first seven entrants into the Battle of Los Angeles last week, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla listed the final 17 entrants today. With a very heavily Lucha Underground influence; Brian Cage, Ricochet, Tommy End, Trevor Lee, Pentagón Jr, Drew Gulak, Angélico, Trent?, Andrew Everett, Fénix, Rich Swann, Jack Evans, Drago, Matt Sydal, Aero Star, Zack Sabre Jr., and Drew Galloway round out the roster of 24. OF course this is with the originally announced; Will Ospreay, Marty Scurll, Timothy Thatcher, Mike Bailey, Chris Hero, Biff Busick & Mark Andrews. The BOLA has become one of the biggest events in Southern California over the years and this year will be be no different. The 24 Man Tournament will span over three days, Aug 28th, 29th & 30th. Mr. Kleinrock would also like you to know that Pentagon & Fenix shirts and masks are at LuchaShop.com right now with Drago back in stock soon and a Jack Evans shirt dropping next month.

AWS goes on hiatus
This one hurts. Bart Kapitzke has always been a dear friend to SoCalUNCENSORED. He’s has always been available to talk about the scene but more importantly, his shows have been some of the best in the state. 2014 saw AWS take the runner up prize for the Promotion of the Year Award. 2014 Match of the year happened in the middle of an AWS ring. Bart was even kind enough to allow me to step into his ring and announce to the AWS audience the 2014 Most Outstanding Award and the 2014 Match of the Year Awards. With that being said, AWS will be taking a break through out the Fall. I think Women Wrestling in Southern California will be greatly affected by the lack of a promotion that puts on more than “special attraction” matches featuring talented wrestlers.  Nonetheless July 25th, August 29th, and September 26th. Keep these dates in mind. There are the final Alternative Wrestling Shows scheduled for 2015, and quite possibly for the foreseeable future. Their next show in Summer Heat, looks incredible; with a Main Event of Brian Cage taking on Willie Mack for the AWS Heavyweight Championship, Christina Von Eerie wrestling against the NWA Woman’s Champion Santana Garret (in a non-title match) and the return of Sonjay Dutt who challenges Famous B for the AWS Lightweight Championship.  Although the shows for the remainder of the year have been canceled, I would suspect that a good way to get AWS back in 2016, is to show up to the next three shows, bring a friend, by some merchandise, and enjoy yourself.

An update on Jon Ian

HE’S BACK!! What a remarkable day! Jon’s sitting up, moving around, alert, talking his ass off, cracking jokes, and overall being the pain in the ass we all know and love! HE DID IT!! Thanks so much for all your prayers and support. My brother from a chocolate mother is BACK!! CHOCOLATE BEAR LIVES!!!

The Baby Bull” profiled in the Desert Sun
An anomaly these days, but hat’s off to the “Baby Bull” for getting a bit of recognition from outside the wrestling media.  The Desert Sun, a newspaper that is distributed through out Palms Springs and Coachella Valley, recently profiled 2014 SoCal Rookie of the Year Nominee Vance Garayt.  Garayt is a product of the Jesse Hernandez School of Hardknocks and a member of the EWF Roster and a resident of La Quinta.  An up and comer with the Empire Wrestling Federation, you can find some of his matches via the TeamMeal YouTube Page.  It’s rare for this day an age to see any wrestling covered in mainstream media.  “Baby Bull” will be apart of the American Championship Lader Match, featuring Viking Warrior, RJ Ruiz, Anthony Idol, Richie Slade, and Adrian Quest. on July 3rd at the EWF Arena.  Tickets are $12 for adults, $6 for kids.

United Wrestling Network
Last week’s upload included the episode that later aired on June 21, 2015. Cold Cold World vs. Jared Vargas & Steven Andrews, a Television Championship Match; Kevin Martenson vs. Peter Avalon, and Leo Blaze & Cedric King vs. Dan Joseph & Douglas James, and in the Main Event 1/2 of the Heritage Tag Team Champion Ryan Taylor vs. Jakob Austin Young. The UWN powered by Patreon, is perfect for those of us who do not have access KDOC-TV or YouToo America. Newest episodes of Championship Wrestling from Hollywood are uploaded usually prior to the airing on Sunday Mornings.  Currently available for streaming are; RockNES Monsters defending the Hollywood Heritage Tag Titles against Natural Selection with Percy Pringle III and Los Luchas from June 26th 2010 in Yuma Arizona, Daniel Bryan vs. Sean “X-Pac” Waltman from November 11th 2007 in Peth Australia, AJ Styles vs. Trent Barretta on June 14th 2014 at Port Hueneme California, and most recently added Chase Stevens & Andy Douglas (The Naturals) taking on Romeo Roseli & Antonio Thomas (The Heart Throbs) from the Tsongas Arena in Lowell MA from July 7th 2006
