Rey Misterio is a free agent, where is he heading? Samoa Joe’s a free agent, where is he heading? Truth is we don’t know, but we should know much sooner than later. PWG is tonight, are you going? The tag team champions won’t be there. Have you subscribed to the United Wrestling Network yet, you should? And there is another wrestling promotion who is now making their videos available on demand. Plus this week’s wrestling schedule.
Rey Misterio
In a move that surprised very few, Rey Misterio has officially parted ways with World Wrestling Entertainment as verified by Mike Johnson of PWInsider. Rey Misterio debuted in 1989 in the Independents of Mexico. Misterio’s career quickly took off working in AAA, but it was the exposure that he received working for ECW that propelled him to stardom. In 1996 Misterio became apart of the Cruiserweight Division of WCW which featured the best international wrestling in the World. When WCW was sold to WWE, Misterio spent a brief time returning to the Indies in 2001 and 2002, before debuting for the WWE and eventually winning the WWE and World Heavyweight Championship. Some including our very own Mike Draven, have speculated that Rey Misterio is heading to Lucha Underground. I’ve also read many speculating that Misterio will return to the promotion where his career really launched, AAA. Thursday March 26th leading up to Wrestlemania Weekend; Rey Misterio will be taking part in a VIP Meet and Greet followed by the MLW Radio Live Podcast with Rey Miserio and friends featuring a live Q & A with the fans in attendance as well as an after party.
Update on Samoa Joe
“Just a disclaimer the ride this year is going to be a wild & unpredictable one. You have been warned,” is the 149 character disclaimer shared on twitter. Ring of Honor announced that Joe will be in Las Vegas at the Orleans Hotel & Casino. In fact, Joe’s been booked for four dates in March, in Baltimore, Milwaukee, Chicago Ridge, and the Supercard of Honor IX in Redwood City. Also via twitter Joe mentioned that “Accepting limited dates for the near future.” There is speculation that Joe will be transitioning to a career with the WWE or perhaps joining the Lucha Underground roster. I’m in the camp that sees Joe following AJ Sytles working New Japan Pro Wrestling and working part-time Indies. I’m really hoping that Joe makes a return in Southern California. However, whatever path Joe follows, will come to fruition very soon as Pennsylvania wrestling promotion, Lancaster Championship Wrestling reported that Samoa Joe is not taking bookings after April 23rd, so his path will be revealed sooner.
Pro Wrestling Guerrilla
Synonymous with fast paced and hard hitting professional wrestling, PWG’s first offering of the New Year is titled “Out of Nowhere” which takes place at their home, American Legion Post #308 in Reseda. I’m a little surprised that there wasn’t a DDT Tournament in January, perhaps its being pushed back to later in the year. Guerrilla’s World Championship will be on the line when Roderick Strong defends against Trevor Lee. However, missing from the nights are the World’s Cutest Tag Team and PWG World Tag Champions, Joey Ryan and Candace LeRae, who are touring Europe; Nottingham, Essex, St. Neots of the United Kingdom, and the following week Germany. With no other matches running tonight, I expect PWG to be turning folks away, if you’re heading to the event make sure you get their earlier as General Admission Tickets do sell out. Other matches include Monster Mafia (Ethan Page & Josh Alexander) vs The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) “Speedball” Mike Bailey vs Biff Busick Drew Gulak vs Chris Hero Cedric Alexander vs Tommaso Ciampa Best Friends vs The Beaver Boys Ricochet vs Former WWE Star Matt Sydal ACH vs. AR Fox. No word if Samoa Joe will be in attendance, but I know the fans are hoping for it.
United Wrestling Network
For the past few months I have been writing about how much I’ve been enjoying catching up with Championship Wrestling from Hollywood via the United Wrestling Networked powered by Patreon. The group recently added 4 more episodes to already roughly 25 hours of wrestling programming, including the Loser Leaves Town Match: Pearce vs. Cabana, Scorpio Sky vs. Ryan Taylor for the TV Title, Willie Mack vs. the Hobo for the Heritage Championship, and the Scorpio Sky & PPray vs. Vermin match that just aired last week. Outside of the bonus match of Daniel Bryan vs. Sean Waltman and AJ Styles vs. Trent Baretta (which never aired on KDOC TV or MavTV) episodes start as far back as July and are being updated all the time with the shows before they air on KDOC. Being familiar with the vault of David Marquez, I know there are many more gems that should be popping up soon, plus the hundreds of hours of television that has been produced under the CWFH or NWA Hollywood banner. If you are a fan of wrestling, I can’t see a better value than $2 a month for that ever growing library and I can’t recommend it enough.
Vendetta on Demand
NWA: Vendetta Pro Wrestling has recently started making their valut available on demand via DiyWrestling.com. Thus far, three matches have been added with more to come. The first match available is called a “Ballistic Barbed Wire Massacre Deathmatch” pitting JD Horror against the “Pyscho Shooter” Drake Younger. Also available is Amber O’Neal against Terra Calaway with Shelly Martinez acting as the special guest referee. The last offering is a TLC Match for the Vendetta Pro Heavyweight Championship Matt Hardy vs. “The Rock of Love” Billy Blade. Joseph Duncan posted that “Older episodes of Vendetta Pro Wrestling TV are being moved over to Vendetta Pro Wrestling On Demand, while episodes 19, 20 & 21 will remain on YouTube. New episodes will be available soon! Full episodes will air in the Santa Maria-Lompoc area on Comcast 25, with modified episodes appearing on YouTube with a free match, plus information on upcoming On Demand matches, powered by DIYwrestling.com and available at ondemand.vendettaprowrestling.com
