The Year End Awards are coming… When did San Diego become the hot bed of Indie Wrestling? Why did Bill Demott step down from the WWE Performance Center and what does it mean to Indie Fans? And yes, I’m still hocking the United Wrestling Network on Patreon, you should be on this. Plus this week in Wrestling.
SoCal Year End Awards
We at SoCalUNCENSORED pride ourselves on being the trendsetters, not the trend followers. We kind of do things our own way. We’ll be damned if we just become another website with year end awards in January, no no no, we stand apart by releasing our year end awards closer to Spring the following year. That’s just our commitment to excellence that you’ve all grown accustomed to over the past 14 years of this websites existence. Word in the office is that the year end award polls will be going up on Saturday, unless you know… we prefer to standout even further. However, the year end awards have been a hallmark of this website and will continue to be so for the foreseeable future. Remember, the online polls from the message board account for 35% of overall vote. It’s too late to send family, friends, Roman’s and countrymen, to spam our polls. But for the regulars at SCU, they have the opportunity to make their voice heard. Last year, AWS was the Runner up to Pro Wrestling Guerrilla as Promotion of the Year. Ray Rosas was the Runner up to Adam Cole for Wrestler of the Year. Cyanide and Vintage Dragon were the Runner up to Peter Avalon and Ray Rosas for Tag Team of the Year. Candace LaRae was the Runner up to Scorpio Sky for the Paul T. Memorial Award for Most Outstanding Wrestler. Sage Sin was the Runner up to Eli Everfly for Rookie of the Year. And Rosas vs. Johnny Savoi from IWL was the Runner up to the Young Bucks vs. DojoBros vs. Inner City Machine Guns from PWG for Match of the Year.
San Diego…
It wasn’t too long ago that I was asked about wrestling promotions in San Diego County. And I flat out said something like that there were very few promotions in San Diego I would trust to actually put on a show when it was advertised, let alone have it be a “good” show. Tonight is Finest City Wrestling’s Hell’s Kitchen featuring the Young Bucks taking on Vermin and one of the most loaded cards we’ve seen in a while in San Diego. There is also Oddity Wrestling Alliance that has the main event of Rey Horus (formerly known as Hijo De Rey Misterio) vs. Steve Pain in an OWA Jr. Heavyweight Championship Match. And of course, Jeff Dino’s SoCal Pro is holding its March Madness show Saturday Night which has always been a favorite of mine. March Madness debuted seven years ago and it continues to high light the top tier talent of SoCal Pro, but Saturday it will be headlined by an Intergender Tag Team Match. Tommy Wilson and Ashley Grace will take on SoCal Crazy and Kitana Vera. As you can tell Wrestling is alive and well in San Diego.
Bill Demott stepped down from the WWE
We don’t typically cover moves that happen in the WWE, however this particular move really does change the way that WWE Hopefuls who make up Independent Wrestling view the WWE Performance Center. In a move that was a tad bit shocking, Bill Demott stepped down from his position as Head Coach at the World Wrestling Entertainment Performance Center. On March 6th at 11:19am, announced via twitter that the rumors weren’t true. “I deny the recent allegations made about me, however, to avoid any embarrassment or damage to the WWE, I’ve decided to step down from my role effective immediately.” However, SoCal’s very own Vendetta Pro Wrestling Radio Podcast featuring Billy Blade and Joseph Duncan really seemed to challenge that. The first episode of the podcast which aired Feb 25th with guest Judas Draven, formerly known as Austin Draven in SoCal and Judas Delvin at NXT pained a very different picture. Draven painted a picture of fear and intimidation, where you must walk on egg shells or be terminated. A far cry from the Bill Demott consoling a battered Matt Cappotelli on season 3 of WWE’s Tough Enough after Bob Holly beat on Cappotelli like he owed him money. The level of unprofessional behavior at the Performance Center was all centered on Bill Demott, who would take liberties with trainees, use homophobic epithet, racial slurs, and constantly put talent in compromising position that could and would lead to injury and made the performance center an unsafe environment at times. According to one source, morale was boosted by Demott’s decision to step down. I think a lot of credit should go to Vendetta Pro Wrestling for helping to bringing to light what was happening at the Performance Center and helping to create awareness that lead to change.

Recently added to the video offerings of the United Wrestling Network are the 200th Episode featuring the Heritage Tag Champions PPRay defending against the Revolution and the CWFH TV Champion Ryan Taylor defends against Scorpio Sky in an “I Quit Match” and the episode that features the Open Door Battle Royal Challenge. Outside of the bonus match of Daniel Bryan vs. Sean Waltman and AJ Styles vs. Trent Baretta (which never aired on KDOC TV or MavTV) episodes start as far back as July and are being updated all the time with the shows before they air on KDOC. Being familiar with the vault of David Marquez, I know there are many more gems that should be popping up soon, plus the hundreds of hours of television that has been produced under the CWFH or NWA Hollywood banner. If you are a fan of wrestling, I can’t see a better value than $2 a month for that ever growing library and I can’t recommend it enough.
