Jay Cal’s View #64

This week, we say good bye to New Wave, have you checked out the James Morgan pieces, very interesting.  And this week’s upcoming events, nothing on friday… it is  always weird to me when there isn’t one single show scheduled for a Friday.  Far be it for me to book dates for Southern California promoters, but I always thought Friday was a good night for action to take place…

SoCal says Goodbye to New Wave Pro
“Hey Jay Cal, there is supposed to be a huge announcement this weekend at New Wave.  Do you think you can include that in the press-release you posted for Totally Smashed?”  Seemed like an odd request at the time and I most assuredly complied with the request, but I was puzzled.  What kind of an announcement would be so important that it MUST be included in a presser?  Stunned I think is the only way I can describe when I had heard that New Wave was shutting it down. Ben posted some great Memories of New Wave over the past five years.  Unfortunately unlike Ben I don’t have any memories of New Wave.  I’ve always joked about them being on my SoCal Bucket List.  I’ve only ever heard of good things about New Wave Pro.  I have been fortunate to have met Trevor and spoke to him after a few of the SoCal Pro shows.  He and Andy seem very genuine people and I wish them all the luck in the World this Saturday Night and I hope this leads to bigger and better things for Anchors Away.

The Morgan Chronicles
Josh Waldrop has put together a real nice piece on James Morgan.  Morgan suffered what could have been a career ending injury towards the end of 2011.  If you follow NWA Hollywood you’ve seen Morgan sidelined with his arm in a sling, he is passionate about a return to the ring.  Josh takes a look at the two sides of James, the wrestler and the man.  I really recommend taking a look at the piece as it is not only written nicely, but gives the reader access to another side of James Morgan that you probably weren’t aware of.  You can read Part 1 and Part 2, Part 3 will come out Saturday Morning.

Talk NWA
Thanks for everyone who continues to spend their Saturday Mornings talking NWA with me via the Podcast.  We got a lot of positive response to our last Free For All Show and will be hosting another one at the end of March.  This week we talk to New England Championship Wrestling Promoter Sheldon Goldberg as well as play a pre-recorded interview with New Wave and SoCal Pro’s B-Boy.  B-Boy was getting ready to face the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion later in the evening.
