Jay Cal’s View # 15

In this week’s edition of Jay Cal’s View, we take a look at the recent forfeiture of the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World’s Heavyweight Championship and who I think will be the next man to wear the title. I’m also going to share with you who the next guest on my podcast will be, and give you a reminder about the NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood debut this Friday. Plus I’ve got the upcoming events for this weekend and the results from last weekend. Pro Wrestling Guerrilla coming off of another legendary Battle of Los Angeles announced earlier this week that the World Championship made famous by names like Super Dragon, AJ Styles, Joey Ryan, Low Ki, Bryan Danielson, Human Tornado and Chris Hero was vacated due to the inability of the last champion Davey Richards to defend the title.  One of the most prestigious World Championships in wrestling was originated at the Bad Ass Mother 3000 event where Frankie Kazarian outlasted Joey Ryan in the finals of a 16 man tournament.  The PWG World Title would gain its status when it was defended in the UK, Germany, Japan, and Australia. The new champion will be crowned on October 9th in Reseda.  The title match will be a 4-Way match featuring the semi-finalist of the BOLA 2010. BOLA 2010 winner Joey Ryan vs. ROH tag champion Chris Hero vs. ROH tag champion Claudio Castagnoli vs. Brandon Gatson.  To witness the crowning of the 17th PWG World Champion order your tickets now. The final four if you will are all very talented wrestlers. Both Chris Hero and Joey Ryan are former champions and both are very noteworthy for having defend the title internationally, both having two reigns as champion, and both having the top two longest reigns. If Claudio Castagnoli were to win the championship it would mark the first time a non-North American were to hold the crown and the first major singles title for Double C. The Sleeper Candidate has to be Brandon Gatson. Gatson has had multiple reigns with the EWF title but a victory for Gatson would be one of the biggest upsets ever in the world of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla. If Gatson can somehow manage to walk away with the PWG Championship against 2 former champions and a very well qualified Castagnoli, his stock would sky rocket.

My pick for the next PWG World Champion- Brandon Gatson.

I wrote a review of the most recent Mach-1 Wrestling’s Friday Fight Night.  I would say that I’ve been to quite a few of memorable shows in my time, but this one hands down, was one of the best moments I can remember witnessing in pro-wrestling.  Often times moments like the one that happened Friday the 10th feel forced or flat out fake.  But Jon Ian and Co. really helped create the perfect atmosphere to say good-bye and good luck to a performer that helped put SoCal on the wrestling world’s map.  Again I’d like to extend my sincere gratitude to Bobby Quance for giving SoCal Fans one more match before his deployment and I’d like to wish him nothing but the best while serving our country.

Willie Mack will be joining me live this Monday afternoon for my Alliance Radio Podcast.  The podcast is slanted towards covering topics regarding the National Wrestling Alliance.  But with Mack’s roots in Southern California wrestling, I’d expect this interview to focus a lot on the SoCal scene.  If you want to call in to the show the number is Call in Info (646) 478-3019.  You can tune in online at www.blogtalkradio.com/alliance-wrestling

A little reminder,  Friday, Sept. 17 at 8PM KDOC-TV Los Angeles will be running a one hour special on the legacy of the NWA. I’ve heard rumblings about rare footage from as far back as the 50s.  Please spread the word and watch!  Channel 56 for most of us. Tickets are on sale now at Galaxy Box Office for the next television taping for NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. You can also purchase over the phone (714) 957-0600 or online thru
