2007 Battle of Los Angeles Information (08/29)

If you ask Pro Wrestling Guerrilla World Champion “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson what the last thing he remembers from this past Saturday night is, he might tell you that before everything went black, he saw the biggest, angriest, shirtless young Japanese girl charging directly at him. And then there was nothing. And then there was something, but it was blurry; and unfortunately, therein lies the problem. In a match this past weekend with Japanese superstar Takeshi Morishima, Bryan Danielson suffered injuries, which include a small fracture of his orbital bone and a detached retina, that will prevent him from competing in PWG’s 2007 Battle of Los Angeles tournament, taking place August 31 – September 2, 2007. Bryan Danielson did receive treatment for his injuries, including outpatient surgery to repair his detached retina, but due to the severity of the injuries, he has been advised to take 4 to 6 weeks off to let his injuries heal properly. As much as we wish the PWG World Champion could participate in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles, we understand that the health of our wrestlers is paramount, and we wish Bryan Danielson a full and speedy recovery. Though if he does feel like wrestling this weekend, I’m sure we can prepare a waiver or something. With the PWG World Champion out of action, the question of who will take his place in the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles has been generating quite a bit of discussion and speculation. That speculation can end right now, because taking the place of “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson will be fellow Pacific Northwest native Tony Kozina. Since making his return to PWG earlier this year, Kozina has impressed fans and PWG management alike with his “whatever it takes” attitude and drive to win, making him a perfect fit for the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles tournament. However, Tony Kozina will need more than sheer force of will to win the tournament, since he takes Bryan Danielson’s place in the A Block. Moving to the A Block to face Kozina on Night 1 is young up and comer Tyler Black. Danielson’s original opponent, “The Anarchist” Doug Williams, moves to the B Block, and now faces “The Most Money Making Man In Professional Wrestling” Claudio Castagnoli in the first round of the tournament. While Tony Kozina is a veteran of multiple tournaments, never before has he faced such a diverse field, and now he, along with 23 of the best professional wrestlers from around the world, will vie for the same prize, the 2007 Battle of Los Angeles trophy.
