Battle Ground Pro Wrestling March 25th
By True Fan
I didn’t think I was going to the BiG Pro show, but I was convinced to go. I wasn’t really expecting much good wrestling, as the card didn’t really look that good aside from the lucha six man, and the Scott Lost/Bo Cooper match. Sadly, Scott Lost couldn’t make it and I believe they had an angle with Bo turning face and Scott being stripped of the belt and the main event becoming The Plaque vs Bo Cooper. Although the card wasn’t filled with any MOTYC matches, technical classics, or the kind of stuff most people who go to PWG events expect, the near 50 people in attendence enjoyed what they saw that night in Newhall.
Joey Harder over Markus Riot
I didn’t get to the show in time to see the match, but I heard the finish was Joey Harder going over after countering a Shining Wizard by giving Markus a low blow. Not much else I can add.
The Stepfather and Cousin Ronnie over King Favi and Unholy
This match went too long, around twenty minutes or so. The comedy was decent, as it was your usual Favi/Stepfather comedy match. Some of the better spots had The Stepfamily beating up on Unholy, and Favi joined in and attacked his own partner. A lot of the focus of the match was on dick jokes, and Favi and Unholy going after Cousin Ronnie’s crotch with various low blows and atomic drops. Just your basic Favi match with random gibberish in Spanish and the Favi whistle. There was also a guy with The Stepfamily who I don’t recall being announced, and he looked like Kevin Steen if Kevin Steen had a redneck accent. The guy was hitting on some drunk girls in the front row too.
Crayz over Foob Dogg
Before the match could start, Phenomenal Phil came out and had a five minute entrance. He was walking around the venue drinking a 40oz and smoking a cigarette. He got in the ring and stood on a folding chair and cut a promo on the fans of Newhall and tried to put them down, but they cheered instead. He went on to ramble about Bo Cooper turning his back on his hometown and how Bo is back to sucking up to them. He then started to talk about Foob Dogg and said he sucked, and how that Crayz sucked too but could kick ass, so everything was ok. Yeah, it didn’t make sense to me either. He also said something about Foob being the “Golden Boy” of BiGPro, which is pretty sad in my mind. The match was also announced as an “Old School Rules” match, but the match did nothing to make it seem like it was old school.
Crayz came out and crawled on his knees to the same drunk girls at ringside that the Kevin Steen Redneck guy hit on. Foob Dogg came out to Hatebreed and worse a shirt with some Hawiian shorts and was announced to come from “The Island Of Guam”. This match was a mess. Crayz got blown up after the first five seconds of the match and went outside to get some air. Foob Dogg threw some really horrible strikes and did some horrible mat work on Crayz. The entire time, Phenomenal Phil was trying to distract Foob Dogg. Foob also threw some really horrible looking strikes to Phil and Phil still sold it. The match ended with Phil on the apron and smashing Foob Dogg’s head with an empty beer can, that had very little impact and barely made any contact with Foob Dogg’s head which was enough for Crayz to give Foob a School Boy for the win. Phil was also grabbing at Foob’s legs and pulling them toward the ropes, which looked really bad.
Nikki over Candice Larae
Ben “World’s Biggest Mark” Tomas(who was doing ring announcing” announced that the next match would be a women’s match, and the crowd started to get wild. Candice Larae played a decent heel in the match, and was working over Nikki’s leg. Nikki did a good job at selling the leg work. My biggest problem with this match was Candice’s kicks. They looked really soft and off target, Her heel work was alright, but it seemed like the crowd was more into looking at her ass and cat calling than caring about the wrestling. Nikki won with some sort of slam, and Candice got back up and attacked Nikki’s leg. She grabbed a chair and attacked her again before going to the back. This was my first time seeing Candice work, and she seems ok. Nothing out of this world that most EWF fans make her out to be in terms of ring work. Maybe I didn’t catch her in the right element as it’s hard to get into that match.
I will say that the best part of the match was the crowd chanting “Whoop Dat Trick”.
Young Bucks and Midnight Dynamite went to a time limit draw
Very basic tag match. The Young Bucks played the faces, and Midnight Dynamite played heels but the fans cheered for Charles at one point during the match. After awhile, they started to get on his case. Decent action here, some nice spots, and a basic formula. One of the highspots during the match had Mister Instant Replay holding Charles and Johnny on the outside, and Slick Nick going a Springboard Plancha and almost hitting his head on a lightting rig. Mr Instant Replay tried to go for a Quesadora into a front face slam, but Johnny Paradise reversed it into a Spinebuster. Really good looking spot. The match ended with a time limit draw and both teams continued to go at it. Once the referee, Preston Scott, calmed things down both teams were going to shake hands until The Young Bucks were attacked. Charles Mercury and Johnny Paradise started to proclaim themselves the best tag team in Southern California and held their AWS Tag Team Titles in victory.
Alex Koslov over Hook Bomberry
Koslov got some really good heat from the fans in Newhall, especially from one of the three drunk girls in the front row. The match was pretty good, nothing mind blowing. Each guy threw some pretty stiff chops, and hit their trademark moves. The sickest moment of the match came with Koslov and Hook went for a small package, but it ended with Hook accidently landing on his head During the match, one of the drunk girls I mentioned grabbed Koslov’s hat and worse it while he was wrestling. He didn’t like that and took it back and started to do the Russian Dance he does all the time. The finish saw Alex hitting a Russian Leg Sweep and turned it into a Cobra Clutch Crossface type move and got Hook to tap out. Really good match, second best of the night.
Infernal, Silver Tyger, and Nemesis over Lil’ Cholo, Zokre, and Phoenix Star
Before the match, Infernal was talking shit to some kids sitting in the front row. One of the kids handed him a paper and pen so he could get an autograph, so Infernal took the paper and pen and threw it out the otherside of the ring which got a huge pop from the crowd. The match was pretty good, but it was a little sloppy at times. Still, Los Luchas held things together really well when things got a little sloppy. One scary moment of the match came when Zokre landed on his head on a spot and appeared to have suffered a concussion, but he was able to recover and finish the match. The crowd loved the highspots and the dives Los Luchas did to the outside of the ring. Infernal got the win for his team when he pinned Lil Cholo. After the match, Infernal challenged Cholo to a match at the next show for the BigPro Lucha Libre Title and Cholo accepted. Best match of the night.
Bo Cooper over The Plague to become the new BiGPro Heavyweight Champion
Before the match, Jason Bennett came out and cut a promo on the fans and talked about being “The World’s Greatest Manager”. He rambled on and on and got a lot of heat from the same drunk girl in the front row. They kept going at it during the match and she would be getting in his face. The match itself was decent. Standard heavyweight US Pro style match, with Plague getting a body slam on Bo in the match which helped made him look like a threat. The funniest part of the match was when he whipped Bo into the corner and did a cartwheel into an elbow smash, and nearly missed Bo. Bo was about to get the win until the referee was knocked out. Bo pinned Plague after he hit a DVD but the referee wasn’t counting because he was out. Koslov came down to ringside and hit Bo with Jason Bennett’s trophy, which busted open Bo. Bo made the comeback and beat Plague despite the run in to become BiGPro Champion. Decent match in my mind, and nothing great but the crowd was way into this.
Overall, a decent show from BiGPro. There are so many things they can improve upon. One of them is booking better talent in my mind. It would be nice to see BiGPro book guys like Joey Ryan, Chris Bosh, Quicksilver, Scorpio Sky, Hardkore Kidd and such on their shows instead of guys like Foob Dogg, who was the worst part of the show. Calling him the Golden Boy of the promotion was even worse! Some of the stuff I saw tonight was pretty bad, although it wasn’t as bad as the SAW matches that have been posted on the forums. The next show announced is taking place on May 27th. So far the matches announced are:
-Bo Cooper vs. Alex Koslov for the BiGPro Heavyweight Championship
-Infernal vs. Lil’ Cholo for the BiGPro Lucha Libre Championship
-Charles Mercury vs. Mr Instand Replay
-Johnny Paradise vs. Slick Nick
-Foob Dogg vs. Phenomenal Phil
