A handful of shows coming up this week with Revolution X, Revolution Pro and the debuting Kaiju Big Battel all running shows here in SoCal.
Plus, news on SoCal wrestling seminars, SoCal video games, DVD’s, the launch of NorEast UNCENSORED, a really minuscule PWG recap, news on SoCal stars making east coast apperances on 9/11, and more.- Revolution X will be returning to the Allen Theatre in South Gate on September the 8th.
The more hardcore sister to Revolution Pro, Revolution X will have the usual cast of characters in attendance, Rudos Dojo elite combined with SoCal’s token hardcore wrestlers. For those who may not have been following the storylines within Rev X, Los Sanchos (American Wild Child & Angel) have defended the Revolution Pro Tag Team Titles all over SoCal in both Rev Pro and Rev X ever since they defeated the inaugural Revolution Pro Tag Team Champs, Mexico’s Most Wanted (Damian 666 & Halloween). Although recently in Revolution X, rookie upstarts Los Cochinos (Bigg E. Biggz & Charles Mercury) defeated Los Sanchos for those tag straps. The hatred between these two teams is so enormous, it can only be contained within the confines of a steel cage! Not only will Los Cochinos be looking to retain their tag team championship belts, they’ll be looking to send American Wild Child into early retirement. Also on the card…
The Boy Band, Ronin and “Beautiful” Phoenix Star (with Dino Windwood) will take on Spirit of the Revolution 2004 Champion, Quicksilver and … fresh off his month long tour with Osaka Pro Wrestling in Japan, and current Revolution Pro Junior Heavyweight Champion, Scorpio Sky. Together, they are known as the Aerial Express, AXP!
Also scheduled, Revolution Pro Heavyweight Champion and one of SoCal’s hottest young stars Chris Bosh will defend his heavyweight strap against one of the Inoki Dojo’s top students and one third of the Fighting Santino Brothers, Kaos. I hope Kaos shows up, because him and Bosh could put on an excellent match at the Allen Theatre.
Plus, expect to see your token Revolution X hardcore match, token women’s match, and a band! Wahoo!
– Also on September 8, Boston Massachusset’s Kaiju Big Battel makes it’s debut in SoCal at the Avalon in Hollywood! If Revolution X’s brand of hardcore wrestling combined with top flight Rudos Dojo action isn’t exactly your cup of tea, go check out Kaiju Big Battel’s inaugural show. Kaiju Big Battel presents Tinsel Town Showdown! The best way to describe Kaiju Big Battel is an entertaining hybrid of pro-wrestling and low budget monster movies, with a comedic twist. The last time Kaiju Big Battel made their presence known in the SoCal scene was during a taping of the Jimmy Kimmel Show taped in Hollywood a little over a year ago. I can honestly guarantee that you have never seen a product out there like Kaiju Big Battel. With characters like the heroic Kung Fu Chicken Noodle, the evil Dr. Cube, and tag team sensation Los Platanos (yes, the fighting Bananas) battling it out amongst a ring filled with various skyscrapers, you know you’re definitely in for something different and unique.
Kaiju Big Battel is taking place on Wednesday, September the 8th at the Avalon (formerly The Hollywood Palace). The Avalon is located at 1735 N. Vine Street in Hollywood, CA 90028. According to the Ticketmaster website, tickets are going for $22.50 each. Also performing is musical guest Darker My Love.
For more information, check out the Kaiju website, www.kaiju.com
If you are a wrestling fan with an open mind, craving wrestling action with a comedic twist, and live nowhere near South Gate, do yourself a favor and check out Kaiju Big Battel. And to the Kaiju/SCU contest winners, believe you me, your prizes are on it’s way real soon.
– Right now, it would be safe to say that Revolution Pro isn’t the most well-oiled machine right now. Promotion for their shows have decreased. Also, word on the street is that Rev Pro Brass are not as motivated as they once were when it comes to booking shows and running a promotion. Although, with that said, Revolution Pro will indeed return on September the 11th in the City of Industry for “Peace and Freedom”. The main event looks great as do the Revolution J qualifying matches. Wha-wha-what?! Did someone say Revolution J? Yessir, that’s right, arguably SoCal’s most prestigious tournament is making it’s 4th appearance (and quite possibly it’s last appearance) right here in SoCal. The Rev Pro card for the 11th is as follows…
Main Event – International Explosion
Scorpio Sky & Quicksilver vs. Chris Bosh & The U.K. Kid
Revolution J Qualifying Matches:
Disco Machine vs. Joey Ryan
Scott Lost vs. Tommy Williams
Lil Cholo vs. El Gallinero
Angel vs. Steve Pain
Ronin vs. Human Tornado
Plus one more match. Bell time is at 1:30pm. Make a note of the half hour early start time. Early show bell times = underrated.
– I wanted to congratulate Ian Asher on the launch of his website, NorEastUNCENSORED! Asher and the gang have appreciated Steve Bryant’s contributions to the SoCal Indy wrestling scene, and Asher wanted to do the same thing for his Indy wrestling scene in the northeast. So far NorEastUNCENSORED has got off on a great start and I look for it to blossom into something huge. Fans of SCU should go check out NorEastUNCENSORED when you get the chance.
– Ultimate Pro Wrestling plans on hosting a wrestling seminar with none other than former Vice-President of WWE Talent Relations Dr. Tom Prichard. With more than 20 plus years of wrestling experience under his belt, I’m sure that this one-day UPW seminar will be one of the most knowledgeable wrestling clinics out here in SoCal. The seminar will be on Saturday, September 18 from 10:00am to 5:00pm at UPW’s Ultimate University in El Segundo, CA. Cost for those interested that are not enrolled with Ultimate University is $150.00. If you are a pro wrestler or an aspiring pro wrestler with interests in working for the WWE, this seminar may be exactly what you are looking for. For more information on this wrestling seminar, check out www.upw.com.
– SoCal wrestlers Supreme, Messiah & Vic Grimes will be appearing in the new video game Backyard Wrestling 2: There Goes The Neighborhood. Also making appearances are New Jack, Vampiro, Sonjay Dutt, Zandig, Sick Nick Mondo, Insane Clown Posse, Sunrise Adams and Tera Patrick! M-Dogg20 and Josh Prohibition should be making appearances in this game too. They were the posterboys for the first Backyard Wrestling game, so they should be in the sequel, no? If you are a fan of hardcore/extreme wrestling, this video game is for you. www.bywgame.com
– New Pro Wrestling Guerrilla DVD’s “44 Ways to Kill You With a Pimento” and “Rocktoberfest” are now on sale at www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com at only $15 dollars a pop. Looks like PWG is finally catching up with their DVD’s, which is great news for their fans. www.prowrestlingguerrilla.com
– Speaking of PWG, they put on another solid show with “The Next Show”. SoCal fans in attendance saw Hook Bomberry make his return from injury, only to see Chris Bosh take the win with his pants down. Literally. Not a pleasant sight at all. Keep your eye on Chris Bosh. He is making big waves here in the SoCal scene, and his win against both Quicksilver and Hook Bomberry further proves that.
– American Dragon and UK Kid put on a very under whelming match. While it was definitely entertaining, I know that American Dragon and especially UK Kid are capable of more. You may not believe me now, but UK Kid is the real deal. If the original scheduled match of UK Kid versus Super Dragon took place, I guarantee you that SoCal fans would agree with me that UK Kid could definitely hang with the SoCal elite. Good match from the two, but I know the fans were expecting more from these top-flight wrestlers.
– The six-man tag tore the roof of the JCC (DJ AC in the HOUSE!!!). Christopher Daniels made a great substitute for Homicide (who was unable to attend due to a car accident days before).
– Chris Hero proved naysayers wrong at the JCC by putting on a superb match with none other than SoCal favorite Super Dragon. Fans have clamored that Chris Hero was not worthy of the hype he was getting because of his performances at PWG’s Tango & Cash Invitational. Those defending Chris Hero were saying that the tag team format hindered Hero from performing to the best of his ability. So now that PWG gave Hero the chance to deliver in singles competition, Hero took the ball and ran with, proving to SoCal fans that he can indeed go, and that there is a reason why PWG wants to fly this guy out for shows.
– The PWG Heavyweight Title has taken an interesting turn with American Dragon and Super Dragon being added to the mix. Samoa Joe and Frankie Kazarian went toe-to-toe for the PWG strap last Saturday, and Frankie took one helluva beating at the hands of the mighty Samoan. Samoa Joe won the match by disqualification but lost his shot at the title when Super Dragon, then American Dragon interjected themselves in the match. Frankie Kazarian, while retaining his title, was not too thrilled that both Dragons interfered in his match. Look for so many different singles combinations to take place, or a tag match, or even a four way to take place at the next show.
– Scott Lost and Joey Ryan put on an excellent ladder match in the PWG main event. With help from the First Family (Brad Bradley, Babi Slymm, Vanderpyle, and the PWG Champ Frankie Kazarian), Lost went on to capture the PWG Tag straps. Lost will pick his new tag team partner at the next PWG show on October 9. Will Lost pick a member of the First Family? Will he pick Vanderpyle? Will he pick his Osaka Pro running buddy Scorpio Sky? Will he pick fellow X-Foundation member Tommy Williams? Maybe he won’t even pick any of these guys. Maybe he won’t even pick anybody! He’s now cocky enough to want to defend those titles by himself, and he may just do that. Adding Scott Lost with the First Family was a great move. The First Family was lacking something, and I think Scott Lost was that final piece that completes the heel group that holds all the gold in PWG.
– B-Boy, Excalibur, Super Dragon and Bobby Quance will be wrestling for Combat Zone Wrestling on September 11 in a 4-way dance. All four wrestlers are making reappearances with the company. On a side note: Bobby Quance’s last match for PWG will be on October 9th. www.czwwrestling.com
– Samoa Joe, American Dragon and the Havana Pitbulls (Ricky Reyes & Rocky Romero) will be competing on the east coast for Ring of Honor on September 11. Samoa Joe will be defending his ROH Heavyweight Title against Doug Williams, American Dragon will go up against Alex Shelley, and the Havana Pitbulls will be going up against BJ Whitmer/Dan Maff, the Carnage Crew and Generation Next in an Ultimate Endurance Tag Team match. SoCal wrestling will be represented well on the east coast as both CZW and ROH go head to head on September 11. www.rohwrestling.com
– Rankings for the month of August will be up soon. No rankings submissions as of yet, so it looks like I will be doing these rankings solo.
That’s it for this week. For the most up to date information on what’s going on in the world of SoCal Indy wrestling, check out our SCU Message Board.
