SoCal News & Notes – April 6th, 2004

A new feature we are adding to the site will be a weekly (at least) SoCal news and notes update that will be filled with various tidbits. Since the “Steve’s View” columns that used to be filled with various news pieces no longer run on a weekly basis, hopefully this will help add more news content to the site to make up for it. This new feature will be up every Monday or Tuesday in order to have the latest updates from the previous weekend’s shows. To read the very first “News and Notes”, click below.-Frankie Kazarian won the NWA TNA X division title on last Wednesday’s NWA TNA pay-per-view. Kazarian won the vacant title when he defeated The Amazing Red.

-As you can tell by the press release on this site, Sylvester Terkay, Nathan Jones, and current UPW champion Tom Howard have all signed multi-year deals with the Japanese fighting promotion, K-1.

-Pinoy Boy and Chad Wicks will be heading to Japan as part of New Japan’s Young Lions Cup tournament, that starts this week. The Young Lions Cup debuted in 1985, and has been run off and on ever since (the last one was in 2000). Some previous participants include Shinya Hashimoto, Satoshi Kojima, Shinjiro Otani, and Masahiro Chono among others.

-Speaking of Pinoy Boy, he has been added to NWA Florida’s Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup shows on June 4th and 5th in St. Petersburg, FL. B-Boy competed in last year’s tournament. Beside’s Pinoy Boy, this year’s show features wrestlers such as Homicide and Teddy Hart among many other indy standouts.

-Joey Ryan suffered a minor elbow injury in his April 2nd match with “Old School” Oliver John in WSPW, but he isn’t expected to miss any bookings.

-There has been some speculation on the message boards that since Teddy Hart will be in town for the New Japan Inoki Dojo show on April 16th, that he will be on the Pro Wrestling Guerrilla show on the 17th, but as of right now he has not been booked for any shows in SoCal that weekend aside from Inoki Dojo show.

-Pro Wrestling Guerrilla should be releasing their April 17th card in the next couple of days.

-New Japan Pro Wrestling’s founder Antonio Inoki will be in town for the April 16th Inoki Dojo show, as he will be receiving the 2004 Lou Thesz award at the Cauliflower Alley Club banquet in Las Vegas that weekend. There is no word yet on whether he will make a public appearance at the show or not. He did appear via video at the very first Inoki Dojo show in 2003.

-B-Boy will be making his UK debut on April 24th for ICW against Chris Hero in a two out of three falls match. He will also be wrestling AJ Styles at IWA Mid South’s April 9th show.

-Both EWF and WPW will both be having their eighth anniversaries within the next month. WPW ran it’s first show on April 16, 1996 and EWF’s first show was held on May 5, 1996.
