There have been some changes to our February 7th Mat Wars card.
Unfortunately Michael Modest has informed us that he injured his knee while in Japan and will be unable to compete against Frankie Kazarian. Likewise, while over in Japan, Kazarian was also injured and is questionable for the show. Since Modest will be unable to wrestle, he has sent Apollo Kahn and Ryan Drago to defend his honor and represent PWI. They will face Antonio Mestre and Lionheart making this a tag team match pitting PWI vs. UPW!UPW Mat Wars Tournament semi-finals match #1
Tony Stradlin vs. Tommy Wilson
This match will be a technical showcase of two wrestlers wanting to prove who is the better man. Tony Stradlin had his hands full last month against Lil’ Nate, and despite the controversy of him tapping out, he did score the victory. Tommy Wilson likewise had a hard fought match last month and proved to be too much for Lionheart. Tony said that Wilson disrespected him last month by defeating Lionheart with a superkick, a move that his mentor Shawn Michaels made famous. However when Wilson was asked about it, he responded by saying that he did it as a sign of respect to Shawn Michaels for everything he has done. If you ask me, I think Tony is looking way too much into it and if he isn’t careful, he might be on the receiving end of some sweet chin music!
UPW Mat Wars Tournament semi-finals match #2
Andrew Hellman vs. The Miz
Andrew Hellman is coming fresh off a victory last month against the recent rookie of the year Shawn Riddick. In that match Hellman showed a rare combination of unleashed intensity, unbridled power and explosiveness, and an unbeatable determination to winning. The Miz as well was very impressive last month as he welcomed Antonio Mestre to the “reality” that American wrestlers are as tough as they come. When asked how the Miz feels going into this show, he responded by saying that he is going to show everyone why he is “the MVP of UPW!” Those are some strong words if you ask me, and when Hellman heard them all he could say was “The Miz can say all he wants, but i’m not looking to settle this here, I’m looking to settle this in the ring where it matters”!
UPW vs. PWI
Antonio Mestre and Lionheart vs. Apollo Kahn and Ryan Drago
This is flat out going to be a hard-hitting contest. On one hand you have Antonio Mestre, a mixed martial arts champion from Brazil. On the other hand you have Apollo Kahn, a strong style fighter from Pro Wrestling Iron. Antonio is looking to bounce back from a tough loss last month to The Miz. He’s looking to move back up the latter of success and says he is going to give it his all and defend the name of UPW! Apollo Kahn however is looking to defend the name of his home, PWI. Known as the man with the golden smile, Kahn is as tough as they come. Everything he has ever wanted, he’s had to take it by force. Whenever he steps into the ring, you know there is going to be a fight, and this will be no exception. He’s looking to show UPW just how good he is, and that he is “Money up, and that’s it”!! Antonio has selected Lionheart as his partner saying ” in a match like this I need someone I can count on.” Lionheart has proven that no one is more determined and says he’s ready to prove that he too belongs. Apollo Kahn has selected Ryan Drago to have his back. Drago is well versed in Judo, Praying Mantis Kung-Fu, and Shotokan. Like Apollo, he is a fighter that has no remorse for what he does, and will never second-guess himself in the ring. This will definitely be a show stealer with two teams fighting to defend the honor of their company!
Four Corner Survival Match
The Ballards vs. Savage vs. Hardkore Inc. vs. The University
This is a match that is rich in history. The Ballards and Hardkore Inc. have been the two top tag teams in UPW since its inception. While Savage and The University have had bad blood with each other always wanting to prove which is more important, Size or Speed. On February 20th at Overload, the Ballards will face Hardkore Inc in a TLC match!! Likewise at Overload, Savage and The University will face each other in a 12-man tag team extravaganza! But on Feb. 7th at Mat Wars, what will happen when all four of these teams step into the ring against each other. Every team will have their backs against the wall all wanting to get the momentum on their side going into Overload. But the questions remain: who will represent Savage, and who will represent The University? And who will get the momentum they need going into Overload? Be there on Feb. 7th to find out!
