WWE signs Melina Perez (Kyra) to a developmental contract

WWE has signed Melina Perez, who wrestles for UPW and EWF as Kyra, to a developmental contract. She is scheduled to begin with WWE’s developmental territory Ohio Valley Wrestling next week.Melina, who is 24 years old and from Los Angeles, was trained at EWF’s School of Hard Knocks in San Bernardino after being told about it by Mikey Henderson. She began training with EWF in the summer of 2001.

Melina was first noticed by WWE at the Tough Enough 3 competition, where she was highly praised by Tom Pritchard and Ivory despite not being picked to be one of the 13 finalists. In February 2002, after a tryout before a Raw show in Los Angeles she spoke with Tom Pritchard about getting a developmental deal, though no deal was offered at the time. Around the same time she began working regularly with UPW also. People in EWF were saying she has the most natural ability of anyone female to have ever come through their school.

Melina has also appeared in several television shows, print ads for Nike, and was Miss California 2000.
