SoCal News & Notes 09/08/2017

Today’s news includes updates on No Mercy, CWFH, Anthony Idol, AWS, Bar Wrestling, Cen Cal, VWE, Vendetta Pro, House of Pain, and more. Click for today’s update.

WWE’s No Mercy PPV on September 24th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles is shaping up to have one of the company’s best lineups for 2017 so far. In addition to the already announced Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman and John Cena vs. Roman Reigns matches, four more matches have recently been added to the show.

Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins will defend the Raw tag-team titles against Cesaro and Sheamus; Alexa Bliss will defend the Raw women’s title in a fatal four-way against Nia Jax, Sasha Banks, and Emma; Finn Balor will face Bray Wyatt; and Enzo Amore will challenge Neville for the WWE cruiserweight title.

There are tickets still available for the event, mostly in the higher price points.

With No Mercy in Los Angeles there are a couple of special events going on. First on September 23rd the Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard podcast will be doing a live event at the Regent Theater in Los Angeles at 7:00 pm. You can find ticket info here.

On September 24th at 1:00 pm Brian Zane of Wrestling with Wregret and Steve and Larson of Going in Raw will be doing a live show at The Nerdist Showroom at Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles. You can get more info on that here.

Championship Wrestling from Hollywood has announced that Alberto el Patron will be facing Ryan Taylor on their September 10th television tapings in Port Hueneme. Also on the show will be Scorpio Sky versus Tyler Bateman and Peter Avalon vs. Eric Watts.

Anthony Idol tore both of his pectoral muscles last month. He has already had surgery on one, and is awaiting the second. His recovery time is estimated to be 6 to 12 months. A GoFundMe page has been set up to help him out, as he will be unable to wrestle, or work as a personal trainer while he recovers.

AWS has added Kikutaro and Akane Fujita to their September 30th show. Fujita wrestle’s for the Japanese women’s promotion Ice Ribbon, and will be making her Southern California debut on September 16th’s SoCal Pro show in Oceanside. Kikutaro will be taking part in the lethal lottery, where fans draw names to select the matchups. Fujita’s opponent has not been announced yet.

Bar Wrestling’s next show will be on October 12th in Los Angeles. They were originally set to run October 26th but moved the date so not to conflict with Lucha VaVoom’s show. Already announced for the October 12th show are Gangrel, Abyss, and Rosemary.

Because of the Labor Day holiday and Lucha Underground finished outside of the top 150 shows on cable this week, ratings were not available at press time.

Cen Cal Pro Wrestling will be running at the Graduate in San Luis Obispo on october 21st. Sage Sin is scheduled to defend her Five Cities Championship against Alexander G. Bernard in a Pumpkin Patch Hardcore Match. Also, Sledge will defend the Cen-Cal Pro Heavyweight Championship against Sinn Bodhi.

On tonight’s Vendetta Pro show in Santa Maria, Midnight Delight will defend the NWA International tag-Team titles against the Classic Connection.

Venue Wrestling Entertainment will be running a show they are calling Devil’s Night on October 28th in Imperial. No lineup has been announced.

Joey Ryan and Brian Cage will be on the October 1st House of Pain show in La Puente.

The Keith Lee and Donovan Dijak match from night 3 of PWG’s Battle of Los Angeles tournament this past Sunday was given five stars by wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer. This was the first North American singles match he has rated at five stars since 2012, and it is the second straight year that a match during the Battle of Los Angeles has been given a five star rating.
