SoCal News & Notes 05/25/2017

Today’s news and notes features updates from throughout Southern California’s wrestling scene including VWE, Sabotage, Brave, AWS, EWF, Mav Pro, and more.

Venue Wrestling Entertainment has announced that Rey Mysterio Jr. will be on their July 8th show in El Centro. He will be teaming with a yet to be announced partner versus John Hennigan (Lucha Underground’s Johnny Mundo) and Rocky Romero. Ricky Mandel and Marty Elias have been announced for the show as well. This show will be taking place at the Fun 4 All amusement center in El Centro instead of their regular venue, The Ricochet Rec. Center.

Sabotage has announced the first 18 wrestlers that will be on their August 5th show titled “Something’s Got to Give” in Imperial Beach. Announced so far are Thunder Rosa, Holidead, Shotzi Blackheart, Mazzerati, Ray Lyn, Delilah Doom, Sage Sin Supreme, Desi DeRata, Hudson Envy, Douglas James, Human Tornado, B-Boy, Rocketboy D’marco Wilson, Steven Tresario, Mariachi Loco, Peter Avalon, Joe Heiken, and Eli Everfly. Every match on the show will be an intergender match.

Jeff Cobb has been added to Brave Immortal Combat’s debut show in San Diego on June 4th. An opponent has not been announced.

Maldacito tore his MCL in his right knee during the pre-show battle royal at FCW’s April 14th show. He is currently rehabbing it but it will be a few months before he can get back in the ring.

Shayna Baszler and Shimmer champion Mercedes Martinez will be teaming up on August 26th’s AWS show in South Gate. Their opponent has not been announced.

Sinn Bodhi will be on Empire Wrestling Federation’s July 14th show at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Covina.

Long time friend of SCU Augie Max Vargas has been working on a documentary film about Jesse Hernandez and EWF’s School of Hard Knocks. He has started a crowd funding campaign to help finish the project and you can contribute here.

The current card for Maverick Pro’s June 24th show in Los Angeles is Jorel Nelson vs. Chris Young, Buggy Nova vs. Katarina Leigh, Douglas James vs. Adrian Quest, B-Boy vs. Dicky Maier,  Ricky Mandel vs. Suede Thompson,  Su Yung vs. Christina Von Eerie, and  PPRay vs. Whirlwind Gentleman. They will likely add another match or two.

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla considered running on June 30th, the Friday before the Long Beach New Japan shows, but due to talent schedules was unable to put together a lineup they were happy with. They will be running on July 7th instead with “Pushin Forward Back.”

Japan’s Zero 1 has joined the United Wrestling Network. With Zero 1 joining the UWN there is expected to be talent sharing between the promotion and other promotion’s that comprise the network, including Championship Wrestling from Hollywood.
