Jay Cal’s View #109

If you needed another reason to watch Lucha Underground, I’ve got two words for you… FAMOUS B.  Glad to see the NWA did the right thing and inducted “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce into their 2015 Hall of Fame.  Do you want to meet a former WWE Diva?  Plus updates on the United Wrestling Network, my thoughts on Super Porky from last weekend, and upcoming wrestling events in SoCal.

Famous B goes one on one with Pentagon Jr.
Famous B on Lucha UndergroundWhen Lucha Underground was announced to be taking part locally in Boyle Heights you could assume there would be quite a few local names taking part on the television program.  But I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see more and more Southern California talent debut on the executive produced Mark Burnett wrestling program.  Since its debut we’ve seen Southern California regulars like Chavo Guerrero Jr. (Vendetta Pro), Prince Puma/Ricochet (PWG), Bael/B-Boy and Mr. Cisco/Lil Cholo (AWS), El Mariachi Loco (UIPW), CAGE/Brian Cage (PWG), and Ricky Mandel (SoCal Pro).  Also Cortez Castro/Ricky Reyes (PWG) and Magnificent Martin (CWFH) used to be regulars in Southern California and are only now just returning for the Lucha Underground taping.  Previously Famous B(Santinos) took part in a Battle Royal for Lucha Undergrond, but this is the first one on one match for B.  Taking on Pentagon Jr. the match was cut short when he was put into a modified kimura that “broke” B’s arm.  We wish Famous B a “speedy recovery.”  If you needed anymore reason to watch Lucha Underground, may Famous B be that reason.  Lucha Underground airs Wednesday Night on El Rey at 8PM and is replayed in Spanish on UniMás.

Adam Pearce NWA HOF 2015
Congrats to “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce on being inducted into the National Wrestling Alliance Hall of Fame.  Pearce not only a five time NWA World Champion, but was also the standard bearer of the NWA representing the group through out the world, defending the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in Mexico, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, and all over the United States.  Pearce defended the title in Ring of Honor, WFX Wrestling (a short lived Canadian wrestling promotion who had pay per views), and of course was the center piece of Championship Wrestling from Hollywood until he recently stepped away from Independent Professional Wrestling.  Last year, Pearce was recognized by Wrestling Cares Association for his achievements in professional wrestling and was honored by the Cauliflower Alley Club Men’s Wrestling Award in 2014.  Congrats to Pearce on his induction.

Want to meet former WWE Diva Champion Melina?
Long before she was a WWE Diva, Melina Perez was one of Jesse Hernandez’s students at the School of Hard Knocks and briefly wrestled for the Empire Wrestling Federation.  If you’re into getting photo ops and autorgraphs, the Wrestling Guy has an event for you.  This Saturday, you can meet Melina at the Wrestling Guy Store at 6085 State St., in Huntington Park.  The former WWE Diva will be signing autographs and taking pictures from 2PM to 4PM. For pricing and more information click here.
[Editor’s Note]
Barbie Banks aka Kelly Kelly will also be taking part of the Autograph/Photo Op from 11AM to 1PM at the same event, please be advised.

Updated CWFH via the United Wrestling Network
One of my favorite purchased I made this year was becoming a Patreon of United Wrestling Network.  The United Wrestling Network has been adding content weekly. The last batch of uploads include Joey Ryan defending the MavTV Title against Ryan Taylor, Vermin taking on Joey Ryan, Peter Avalon, and Mikey O’Shea, Vermin defending the Heritage Tag Titles against PPRay, and Adam Pearce’s last Independent Wrestling Match as he takes on Colt Cabana. Seeing the match up live between Pearce and Cabana was incredible. For two who have faced off each other for nearly a decade you know you’re going to see something special when they step into the ring together. Obviously both men put forth even a greater effort in knowing what the implications of this match was going to have. It was a very fitting way to send of the recently announced NWA Hall of Famer. One of the easiest ways to keep up with CWFH is to join now for as little as $2 a month, click here. And with talk of Daniel Bryan matches going to be added soon, sign up now and see where the “YES Movement” started.

Super Porky
Just following up on the story of Super Porky being double booked on the 31st, FCW Los Angeles said that Super Porky had contacted them directly to say that he was injured and said he wouldn’t be working.  Although I haven’t found results for the 31st in Mexico (the night he was said to be double booked) and since it appeared to be a smaller show, I may never get the results.  However, Porky was wrestling Monday Night.  Super Porky, Stigma, and Tritón lost to Bárbaro Cavernario, Hechicero, Kráneo at at the Arena Puebla for CMLL.  He also honored his commitment on the next night with CMLL.  I believe Super Porky wasn’t injured at all and did in fact double book himself.  Recently Colt Cabana accidentally double booked himself and apologized, ultimately owning his mistake and taking responsibility.  I think I’d have more respect for Porky if he did the same.   I want to reiterate that I don’t fault Full Contact Wrestling and believe they were just trying to put on a great show.
