A Recap of AWS “Hardcore Time” August 24th

Shot of the Night - AWS - 08-24-13

This CHAOS COLUMN is a recap of Alternative Wrestling Show’s Hardcore Time, August 24th 2013 at American Legion Post #355, South Gate.  Another strong crowd was on hand for this show. Another ring with a low-laying mat was used, more or less to allow for more ceiling space for high-flying or top rope moves.

1 – Mariah Moreno p. Kitana Vera Strong opener for a ladies match. Kitana was unable to put Mariah away with her signature “Glam Slam” or Ace Crusher/Cutter. Mariah later hit her Modified Michinoku Driver, followed by a Running Slingshot Elbow Drop for the pin.

2 – Mikey O’Shea, Mondo Vega, & Chris Kadillak def. Hector Canales, AWS Lightweight Champion El Ridiculoso, & Biggie Biggz Another great comedy match that had a “DC Comics” flair to it. Team Mikey had a “piece of kryptonite” to help them neutralize “Superman” Hector Canales through most of the match, even making him “collapse” to its power, allowing Mikey to hit a Running Splash for the pin. I bet the “Secret Society of Heels/Villains” are laughing like The Outsider and The Joker.

3 – Willie Mack p. SoCal Crazy Great, even match that saw Willie Mack catch SoCal Crazy, who went for a Slingshot Splash, to hit the Chocolate Thunder-Driver for the pin.

* Before the tag team match, AWS Tag Team Champions PPRay (Peter Avalon & Ray Rosas) hit the ring. Ray Rosas talked about their replacement opponents, Los Bandidos (Rico Dynamite & Tito Escondido), due to an injury to one-half of The Suburban Commandos (T-Rent & D-Unit). Ray said, in reference to the match being a non-title match. “You beat us, you earn a title shot. There are no handouts!”

4 – Non-title match. Los Bandidos def. PPRay Great match that saw Tito p. Ray with what looked like an Inverted Death Valley Driver. Looks like Los Bandidos will be looking for AWS Tag Team gold at the earliest opportunity, as redemption for losing the CWFH Tag Team titles to PPA & Ray.

5 – Submission match. Scorpio Sky made B-Boy tapout to a choke hold, using a dog collar chain leash.

6 – Fatal 4-Way, One-Fall match. Tyler Bateman def. Ryan Taylor, Che Cabrera, & Ricky Mandel More great action from all four wrestlers. Ryan went for the submission win, putting Che in a Sharpshooter, but Tyler took advantage of the situation, and rolled Ryan up for the pin.

SM – Women’s Hardcore Match. Candice LeRae p. Hudson Envy Things got a little out of hand initially when Sage Sinn ran in to help Hudson out, but then she was cancelled out by Mariah, who gave her the Modified Michinoku Driver, then carried her out to the back. A handful of weapons were used in this match, including a steel chair, a crutch when Mondo Vega interfered, a “Road Closed” sign, a kendo stick, a wooden pole wrapped in barbed wire, a bag of thumbtacks, a cinder block, and even a studded leather belt that was wrapped around a bouquet of flowers. Hudson drew first blood when she smacked Candice up the head with the steel chair, only to get busted open herself when she took a shot from Candice smashing the studded-leather belt & bouquet up her own head. Plenty of blood were shed in this one, and both women went for the table spot near the stage, with thumbtacks on it. Candice was able to block the Butterfly Suplex attempt from Hudson, and reversed the hold into the Raccoon Neckbreaker table & thumbtacks spot for the hard-earned pin.

M – Lil Cholo successfully defended the AWS Heavyweight Title, p. Joey Ryan Despite being under the weather, Cholo was able to overcome getting his left arm picked apart, and managed to kick out of at least one Superkick. Cholo hit a Slingshot Ace Crusher/Cutter for the pin.

It’s not very often you see a couple of great ladies matches, but all four women put up a great show. Cholo, Tyler, Scorpio, & B-Boy also put a great showing, as well. I’ll give my choice for match of the night to the women’s hardcore match, since both Hudson & Candice were willing to put their bodies on the line to give the fans what they wanted, and both women should be favored to win next month’s women’s tournament–a show I won’t be able to attend because I’ll be heading out to Vegas for the “Frozen Fury XV” L.A. Kings preseason hockey games. I will be at the October 13 “Halloween Supershow”, where Lil Cholo will be looking to kick Sabu’s butt.
