Recap of IWL’s “Won’t Back Down” 04-26-13

Shot Of The Night - IWL - 04-26-2013

This Chaos Column is a recap of Insane Wrestling League’s “Won’t Back Down” at the American Legion Post #299 in Chino, April 26th 2013.  Since Mike Draven has already given the results of the card & his own review of the show, this is my own review of the same card. The presence of a former WWE Superstar, as well as the return of Drake Younger helped bring a very lively crowd to fill the legion hall. The lighting for the show was changed some, as it now carries more of an old school arena feel.

P – Che Cabrera def. Seville Alvarez, Tyler Durken, & Joseph Knox
Great action throughout the match. Seville carried most of the match w/ his mix of high-flying & lucha skills, but Che’s toughness & great timing helped him earn the right to take on the first IWL Breakout Champ, that opened the main part of the iPPV.

1 – Simon Lotto p. Steven Andrews to become the first ever IWL Breakout Champion
Mike Draven pretty much hit it head-on w/ how the match turned out.

2 – Mixtape Kings def. Frosted Tip Warriors & Fresh 2 Death
More great action all around. Jacob Diez got hot late, but his set-up move on Ryan Kidd seemed to have knocked the lighter half of FTW out-of-action, so he had to grab Eddie Randall from the apron so that he & “LTP” could hit their team finisher. Nice new valet/manager for the Mixtape Kings, too.

More on the Damon Divine/Justin Ryke promos.
After the two set up their 6/28 match, and Damon Divine was escorted out of the building by security, Justin Ryke did a somewhat shoot-promo, saying that no matter where he went in wrestling, he would proudly represent the IWL.

3 – Eric Watts w/ a DQ-win over Terex
I counted 6 straight Splashes after Christian Cole was all done w/ Eric Watts, and introduced “The Definition of Pain” as his new associate. If Christian Cole manages to give Terex a Heavyweight Title shot, it could be lights out for Johnny Saovi.

4 – Willie Mack & Famous B def. The RockNES Monsters
More great tag-team action here. Mike hit it right w/ how the match ended, as Willie Mack had to thwart the Explosive Amnesia attempt to later land the Chocolate Thunder Driver on Yuma.

SM – John Morrison & Johnny Saovi def. The Young Bucks
Yet another great tag-team action, and the brothers didn’t make it easy on JoMo & Saovi. In fact, Saovi had to work hard just to tag out to JoMo, but when he did, he really got the ball rolling. One big move by Saovi to help him isolate Nick Jackson was what allowed JoMo to hit the Starship Pain on Matt Jackson.

M – Anarchy Rules Match: Eric Cross & Ray Rosas def. B-Boy & Drake Younger
Weapons inventory: 4 chairs, 1 cinder block, 1 small baseball bat, 1 trash can w/ a lid, 2 baking sheets, and a shopping cart.
Match of the night here. All four men left everything in the ring to give the fans a worthy IWL main event. Plenty of “insane” moments in this one, but perhaps the “most insane” moment of the night came w/ the powerbombs onto the shopping cart–first w/ Drake Younger hitting a Sunset Flip Powerbomb on Eric Cross, then Ray Rosas hitting a Huracanrana on Drake Younger, which ultimately helped Eric Cross “Cross-Out” B-Boy.
