Recap of AWS’s New Alternative

This Chaos Column is a recap of Alternative Wrestling Show’s New Alternative, 11th Anniversary Show at the American Legion Post #335 in South Gate on March 16th 2013.  The presence of Joey Ryan (who clearly found an opening between his TNA schedule to work this one), and several other well-known talents in the region helped draw a large crowd into the hall of the American Legion post, who weren’t disappointed by the presentation of some serious wrestling mixed in w/ some in-ring comedy.

1 – El Ridiculoso won the AWS Lightweight Championship from Sindarin, using what looked like a Modified Straitjacket Neckbreaker for the title-clinching pin.

2 – Cedric The Hitman p. Hector Canales (w/ Biggie Biggz) w/ a rollup, getting his feet up on the middle ropes that was not caught by Referee Jason McCord. Hector stated off w/ the “El Chido” character, but when his trunks got incidentally pulled down to reveal the “Real Man” trunks, his style & performance changed accordingly.

3 – Los Luchas (Phoenix Star & Zokre) def. Piloto Suicida & Biggie Biggz. The high-flying masked luchadores got the team pin on an exhausted Biggie, making sure Piloto would not be able to make the save.

4 – Grudge match between Mondo Vega & Candice LeRae, although from the hockey sweaters they wore, it may as well be more of a “Freeway Faceoff”, since Mondo wore a Los Angeles Kings “road white” sweater to the ring, while Candice entered the fray in an Anaheim Ducks “home black” sweater”. Their ring gear were also similar, except Candice’s gear would nearly mistake her for an Anaheim Ducks Power Player ice crew member. Matchwise, it was a total brawl, and it took Candice 3 Ballplexes, and a Super Ballplex to put Mondo away w/ a pin. Hudson Envy ran in to cut the post-match celebration short and attacked Candice before being run-off by Christina Von Eerie.

5 – After intermission, Shane & Shannon Ballard (w/ Golddigger) narrowly escaped w/ the AWS Tag Team titles, beating PPRay (Peter Avalon & Ray Rosas) when Shane Ballard p. Peter Avalon w/ the Brainbuster. Golddigger may’ve paid a steep price, though, as a “Valet Legdrop”, w/ a Ballard providing the force, missed the mark, and effectively knocked her out.

SM – Christina Von Eerie successfully defended the AWS Women’s Championship, making Hudson Envy (w/ Mondo Vega) tapout to a submission hold that looked like a Bow-and-Arrow to the knees, seemingly mixed in w/ a Modified Indian Deathlock. Mondo cut her own post-match antics short, until Candice LeRae ran both him & Hudson off. Personally, I thought Hudson held her own ground against a woman who has been competing in major indie promotions, especially CZW, Shine, & SHIMMER. That should help her hone her skills better and toughen up.

M – 8-man elimination FFA to determine the #1 Contender to the AWS Heavyweight title, now held by Brandon Gatson. TNA Star Joey Ryan was the main feature, along w/ Willie Mack, Scorpio Sky, B-Boy, Lil Cholo, Ryan Taylor, SoCal Crazy, & Johnny Paradise. It only took the bell ring to see old rivalries being renewed in a sense, as SoCal Crazy went after Johnny Paradise, and Scorpio Sky and Lil Cholo regularly squared off. Plenty of action by all eight men before the eliminations came in rather short order. Ryan Taylor got it started, p. Johnny Paradise w/ the Perfect Circle. Scorpio Sky went on to p. SoCal Crazy. Joey Ryan then rolled-up & p. Ryan Taylor, but then ate Willie Mack’s piledriver & got pinned himself. Scorpio Sky then p. Willie Mack w/ the Ace of Spades, before getting eliminated himself by B-Boy’s Reversal Backslide. The New Age Punisher went on to p. Lil Cholo w/ the Shining Wizard in a final duel to earn the title shot.
