Jay Cal’s View #61

Sixty One Jay Cal’s View and not one award nomination.  In The View; I take a look at Joey Ryan he needs your help to win the MLB Fan Cave 2012 Contest plus he’s on TV everywhere.  Also from NOAH in Japan by way of Australia, TMDK will be debuting at the Hollywood TV Taping.

Joey Ryan Wants Your Vote
Just a little over six weeks into 2012 and already Joey Ryan has appeared in media across the world.  Joey who seemingly never shies away from a camera in the past few days has appeared with Hector Canales and Ryan Taylor on Logo TVs RuPaul’s Drag Race and has along with Little Guido have joined the Ring Ka King Project in India.   This coincides  with his recent NWA Worlds Championship Match in EWF,  his up-coming NWA Hollywood Match with Johnny Yuma, his appearances for Lucha VaVoom, his WCWC Title Defense against Willie Mack at BPW’s Counterstrike, and New Wave’s Tidal Wave IV.  I’ve followed Joey Ryan’s career for over a decade now and although I don’t know much about Joey Ryan the person, I do know that he shares a passion for at least two things that I also am passionate about.  Pro-Wrestling and Baseball, more specifically Angels Baseball. Joey Wants your Vote.  The MLB Fan Cave 2012 contest has been narrowed down to 50 finalists, and “SoCal’s Own” Joey Ryan made the cut.  Watch and vote for your favorite contestant videos , from now until Feb. 22, you can vote for as many of your favorite videos as you want and spread the word by sharing on social media.  Do Joey a solid and show him some SoCal Love!

TMDK to debut at NWA Hollywood Sunday
Redefining Tag Team Wrestling in Pro Wrestling NOAH, The Mighty Don’t Kneel have been making a name for themselves in 2011.  And long before TMDK traveled to the land of the rising son, Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls cut their teeth not only in the United States with the NWA Pro Wrestling Group, but in their home country in Australia, with Explosive Pro Wrestling. When the duo started to team in EPW it was an all-star pairing and both of them were known to acquire championship gold, Mikey Nicholls in EPW is a Former NWA Australian Champion Former 2 Time EPW Champion Former EPW Tag Team Champion and Shane Hast, like wise is a Former EPW Champion, the  EPW Invitational Winner (2007) and a Former EPW Tag Team Champion.  The duo held the Tag Team Titles in EPW before they embarked on their journeys in Japan.  Individually they both had short, but excellent runs in Southern California.  Haste to this date was the First Australian to challenge for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship, challenging ‘Scrap Iron’ Adam Pearce in SoCal Pro.  Mikey Nicholls won the EWF American Championship by defeating ‘Machine Gun’ Karl Anderson. TMDK’s last NWA Appearance was with Mach-1.  Although no match has been announced quite yet, TMDK will be quite exciting and I’m definitely looking forward to it.

The Insane Wrestling League Championship Vacated
Vic Luna made it very clear this week that the Insane Wrestling League is without its Heavyweight Champion, Paul London.  London has been an on again off again regular in Southern California pre-dating his time with the WWE.  London had become somewhat exclusive in Southern California to IWL, but had previously worked in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (with a very memorable promo with Current WWE World Champion Daniel Bryan as the Hybrid Dolphins), Mach-1 Wrestling, and Ultimate Pro Wrestling.  London had recently began working in Texas once again and had also been part of the Lucha Libre USA under a hood as Sydistiko.  No formal announcement has been made with the relationship of London and IWL going forward, but apparently he will not be at their next show, IWL Enters 2012

TalkNWA
“The Modern Day Hero” returns to NWA Hollywood this weekend to compete in a 4 Corners Match with his Junior Heavyweight Championship on the line.  But before he makes his way to Glendale Studios he’ll take a break to join me on the Talk NWA Podcast.  The fans really turned on Douglas the last time when he faced off against fan favorite Nick Madrid.  Now facing Madrid, Famous B, and SoCal Crazy (On Sunday at 3PM at the Glendale Studios), I can only imagine the “Gilberg” chants will continue.  We’ll also be talking about the new NWA World Jr. Heavyweight Title.  Show starts 10:30 am Saturday Mornings and you can call in at (646) 478-3019 or listen on-line at TalkNWA.com

Year End Awards & Site News…
I had a very productive meeting with my partner on SoCalUNCENSORED, ADAIR.  The popular votes have been tabulated, but there is still the committee vote and time hasn’t been on our side.  The Results will be made as soon as they are available, but we’re still way ahead from last year.  🙂  Also we’re still looking for contributors to the site.  There are a lot folks out there who would consider themselves historians of the SoCal Scene.  Hopefully some of you historians would consider writing for SCU.  Part of the reason Adair and I have tried to keep this site running is to help maintain the Rich History and Tradition of Southern California Wrestling and would love to help share the past with the present.
