Jay Cal’s View #7

On this week’s edition of Jay Cal’s View #7, we talk about the SoCal Scene getting the attention of the mainstream media, the return of the SoCal Hall of Fame, and the wrestling camp coming to EWF and the School of Hardknocks this August. Plus this week’s upcoming events and results.Has SoCal Wrestling becoming, dare I say, mainstream? The sub-culture of Indy Wrestling has remained far removed from most celebrities dodging paparazzi from one boutique to the other. But as of late, it seems like maybe indy wrestling in SoCal might have reached an upper echelon in the world of celebrity.  I’m not talking about adult entertainers or child actors.  I’ve heard  the stories of Smashing Pumpkins front man, Billy Corgan attending Pro Wrestling Guerrilla shows and watching the shows like a regular fan.  And if you’ve been to a PWG show lately, you might have seen NBC’s Community star Gillian Jacobs.  And in a recent blog, KROQ’s Stryker even wrote a review of Lucha Va Voom, you can read it here.  In the blog he even mentions some of his favorites by name, such as Joey Ryan, El Presidente, Dirty Sanchez, and Mach-1 Heavyweight Champion Willie Mack aka “Chocolate Caliente”  How long before TMZ shows up in Reseda or Anaheim to check out your favorite SoCal wrestler?

In Jay Cal’s View #2 I spoke about how the SoCal Hall Of Fame might return. And I was very pleased to see Steve make the announcement with the Call for Nominees. One of my favorite things about SoCal UNCENSORED has always been the rich history the site has maintained. With its return I hope there will be a lot of positive discussion.

Speaking of the Hall of Fame, Jesse Hernandez’s Empire Wrestling Federation in cooperation with American Championship Wrestling and the School Of Hard Knocks will give wrestling fans the opportunity to live the real life of a wrestler, manager, ring announcer, referee or broadcaster for 4 days. The first camp is scheduled for August 11-15 2010. Campers will work intensively with the instructors, wrestlers and students of the Empire Wrestling Federation, and will graduate at an EWF live house show.
