UPW presents Power Play on May 13!

On March 25, Ultimate Pro Wrestling made its long awaited comeback in style with an entertaining night of action at “Locked and Loaded”. Fittingly enough, UPW is now poised to blow its fans away with a return to O.C. Dojo on Saturday night May 13. On that night, championships will be defended, challenges will be answered. And scores will be settled as the top pro wrestling talent in Southern California will compete at “Power Play”.

Lil Nate defends Lightweight Title in rematch with Kazarian!

Well, speaking of big UPW returns, they don’t get much bigger than the return of one the most dynamic and decorated stars ever to grace a UPW ring, Frankie Kazarian! Kazarian last competed in UPW on February 22, 2005. On that night, Kazarian was defeated by Lil Nate, and lost his UPW Lightweight Championship in the process. Both competitors put on a clinic; and the match will go down as one of the greatest title matches in UPW history.

Common sense would dictate that Frankie would receive an immediate rematch. Things did not end up that way. Shortly after the epic battle with Nate, Kazarian left for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) where he competed as a member of the Smackdown roster. During his run with WWE, Frankie scored several big wins over top performers in the Cruiserweight Division including Nunzio and Paul London. He then left WWE, but did not return to UPW competition until now. As a result, “The Future” never got his chance to avenge his loss to Lil Nate and recapture the UPW Lightweight Championship.

That being said, Kazarian had clearly not forgotten about the loss to Nate when he appeared as the guest referee at “Meltdown” on July 20, 2005 in a match in which Lil Nate defended the UPW Lightweight Title successfully in a classic confrontation with Davey Richards. After the match, Kazarian sent a message to Nate by attacking him.

Despite the fact that Lil Nate has held UPW’s Lightweight Championship for over a year, he continues to battle for respect. The youngster who began training as a wrestler at age 14 and is now competing at the ripe old age of 20 has successfully defended the gold against tough competition including Kid Vicious, Shawn Riddik, and Antonio Mestre. At “Locked and Loaded” The Champ once again beat the odds when he bested Lionheart, Scorpio Sky, Human Tornado, Funky Billy Kim, and Johnny Goodtime in a 6-Pack Challenge to retain the title. Nate has a big skeleton in the closet in the form of Kazarian. Was his win over Frankie a fluke? Is Lil Nate the real deal? Another question that must be asked is, will Frankie be 100% focused on Nate given the actions and comments made about Frankie by Chris Bosh at “Locked and Loaded”? Both Nate and Kazarian have a lot to prove in this rematch. Who will walk away with the gold as the winner? One thing is certain; all of the fans on O.C. Dojo will be winners, as they will be treated to what promises to be another amazing match!

Skulu and American Balloon face off in a battle of the bulge!

While Kazarian and Nate battle in a high-flying Lightweight Title match, Skulu and American Balloon will lock horns in a battle of super heavyweights. Skulu returned to UPW at “Locked and Loaded” when he kicked off the show in an entertaining match with Disco Machine. In that contest, the UPW mat endured more fancy footwork than the pad on a Dance Dance Revolution game machine! The popular Polynesian danced and battled his way to a win; and has continued his roll (no pun intended) with a successful recent tour of Japan competing in Zero-One. It is ironic that Skulu will return from Japan to face American Balloon; as Balloon has the type of girth you would find on a Japanese sumo wrestler. It is a good thing this is not a falls count anywhere match, because I have a feeling that the entire match would take place at the concession stand if it were! Both men are in fact in shape…they are round! All joking aside, despite their super heavyweight status, neither of these men are strangers to the top rope believe it or not. The ring better be re-enforced for this one!

Joey Ryan continues to search for competition.

“The Technical Wizard” Joey Ryan made a big impact at “Locked and Loaded”. He stated that he was out to prove his superiority over everyone at UPW. He then defeated UPW rookie Evan Jelic in a tough match. Ryan went on to say, “I was just toying around with the kid. He never stood a chance.” Joey also promised to be at “Power Play” on May 13 to see if UPW has any “real competition” to offer. Who will step up to the plate? Make sure you are on hand live to find out!
