XLUM – June 27th, 2003 – Tijuana, BC, Mexico

By Eric Howard

Nicho el Millionario and Rey Misterio Sr. defeated Damian 666 & Halloween in a cage match in the main event of June 27th’s XLUM show in Tijuana thanks to help from the San Diego Horsemen. To read Eric Howard’s review of the show click below.1. Los Payasos Locos (Coco Blanco & Coco Verde) vs. Juvy & Latin Boy

Los Payasos got the win. A bit of a comedy match withe the clowns. This Juvy is tiny. Not much gong on in this match…

2. Black Spyder/Extassis/Neon vs. Danger/Demencia/Shamu

Black Spyder is working a Spiderman gimmick had a few good moves…don’t remember who won. Drunk guys in the front row kept wanting to talk to all of these guys…

And then…

3. Colibri/Extreme Tiger/Venum Black vs. San Diego Horseman

Crazy, crazy heat for the “ugly” Americans. Adam Pearce’s “F*&% you” works in any language and gets heat every time.

I saw limes, pens, beer, giant deep fried pig skin, Clamato (what?) and some sort of animal bone fly toward the ring. My friend and I attempted to get USA chants going, but were quickly drowned out by the Mexico chants. I did have to give the Americans manager a “F*&% you VanderPyle.”

They split the first two falls (surprise, surprise) and the ending of the third was kind of a mess…I’m not sure who won.

It ended with Hardkore, Crazy Boy (I think) and some Spanish speaking manager coming out and proclaiming they are taking over the fed. They brought out chairs, tables and a barbwire table a beat the Clamato out of the technicos. I think the promoter/commissioner tried to come out and help and was quickly given a beat down and was sent into the barbedwire.

Damian and Halloween came out and chased the Americans away. From my limited ability to understand Spanish, I couldn’t understand a word they said. I assume they were saying something like…’we are taking over’ and the technicos were like…’no you are not!’ I also will assume that this feud will continue.

The match was a bit rough in spots. You could see tell the language barrier was causing a problem. At times, guys were just waiting around to see if the other guy was going to do something. I’m sure coming off the ropes and not knowing what your opponent is going to do, can be frightening.

4. Brazo de Plata/Felino/Rayo de Jalisco Jr. vs. Hijo del Diablo/Misterioso/Universo Dos Mil
More show then action, but that is expected with some these guys on the other side of their careers. A lot of comedy with Rayo doing his matador gimmick against the heels and Porky’s “Que Bonito” working some comedy stuff with Diablo. The crowd loved Porky and Rayo and I guess that makes the match a success. Again, using my limited Spanish skills, I understood the feud between Rayo and Universo Dos Mil would continue.

5. Cage Match: Damian 666 & Halloween vs. Nicho el Millionario & Rey Misterio Sr.-Cage Match

Took a bit to put the cage up and it was after 11 pm before the match started. I think it hurt the crowd reaction during the match a bit. I could see a lot of tired little eyes peeking through little La Parka and Rey Misterio Jr. masks in the crowd. I could see large groups of families leaving before the show came to an end.

Pretty good action, didn’t see anybody juice, which was ok, don’t think they needed it. Nicho did throw a few weak chairs and the crowd moaned, so Rey picked up a chair and really nailed the rudos (I think Damian and Halloween were the rudos.)

Misterio was the first to climb over and headed to the back and Halloween was next, leaving Nicho and Damian to battle it out.

The Americans came flying out of the back and attacked Damian while Nicho climbed over the cage for the win. .
Misterio and Nicho came out and made the save. It looks like Mexico is uniting against the American Invasion. Allgood took a pretty good chair shot before he could jump out of the cage.

More mic work that I couldn’t understand, but it looks like the war will carry over until the next XLUM show.

Uncensored Extras…

This was my first trip to watch lucha in Mexico and I must say that I wasn’t disappointed. The work rate wasn’t the best at times, but the atmosphere was great. The venue is perfect for wrestling, not a bad seat in the house from what I could see. A bit of advice…don’t wear shirts that say “CASH” on the front while walking the streets on TJ. I was attempting to pay tribute to the man in black, but all the merchants on Revelucion were asking about the green stuff in my wallet or they asked where Tango was. I guess lame Kurt Russell and Stallone movies are big south of the border. I also got the chance to meet and speak with Prime Time Peterson and I must say he is a nice guy. I hope he is on the next show.
