Open Letter to Robert Black

Dear Mr. Black,

First of all, allow me to clarify that 1.)-I am NOT a promoter, and 2.)-these opinions are for your consideration only. Now onto business- your federation is in dire straits. It’s in dire straits of some direction and stability which is ever so unapparent. I am not here to dispute your intentions for the world of wrestling, however , it appears to me that XPW needs some drastic measures and they are required now. One may argue that XPW is progressing instead of in decline. ECW was forever being compared to your company, ECW is no longer a single federation so it would be wise to not sit back and get run over by others. I don’t know what your finances are nor do I care. It seems that you rely on big names to draw for you, if so then you are sadly mistaken. Do not for a second get me wrong. Sabu, New Jack, Grimes, and other outside talent are reasons why XPW seems to stay afloat. Also, they are all still very important to the business as we know it. Mr. Black, I urge you to look around at the roster you have and use it to it’s fullest potential. Second, running shows every 5-6 weeks is not the best way to keep fans interested even though you are on America One. Here is a list I have compiled to give you some ideas on your company’s direction.

1-Run shows more often, even if that means not using talent you fly in.

2-This may sound a bit odd but it needs to be said. Please stay off the camera. There’s a reason Paul E. was invisible for most of ECW’s reign, feds should be used to get talent over, not the promoter.

3-Give the fans a huge reason to attend the shows. Make them salivate at the mere thought of attending a show you promote. You have a fantastic roster, no reason fans should go away undernourished. Especially since So-cal is the epitome of what great wrestling is and should constantly be.

4-This exclusive contract some of your talent is on is ridiculous. They should be able to make funds wherever and whenever possible. The more time they have in front of an audience the better.

5-Grand Olympic Security. This may not be a big concern for you but it is for many of us. Granted they are doing their jobs; but attending XPW shows should allow us to be free of their methods of enforcing the rules. If we want to stand up and cheer then we should. I went to AC/DC months ago and not a single person was sitting.

6- Book from the mind and perspective of a wrestling fan.

This leads me to my next point: Your competitors.

Your Competition:
CZW (Combat Zone Wrestling): A fed that began running shows in February of 1999. Their promoter and wrestling star, John Zandig , is already making tremendous progress in the business. Why worry about someone from an East Coast fed? They have a television deal (as of press time) and videotapes priced to own. Their attendance is around 600 and steadily mounting to more. Not quite sure how many are comps. Enormous competitor for XPW despite distance between the two.

MECW: Not yet begun to run shows, however, making a big name for themselves with big names and big backer, (Shows haven’t run yet so we can’t see until they have). May take XPW talent(and former ECW talent) with them when shows begin to run.

TCW: Fed run by Dusty Rhodes, has talent and a Pay-Per-View hopefully to run in November. Rhodes has name value for himself, a definite big competitor for XPW.

These are just some things I want to run by you. Hopefully any of you reading this do not bombard me with hate mail. I happen to like XPW and seeing it grow would benefit all. Thank you for your time Comments and so forth can be sent to bigdorond@hotmail.com
