Despite it being reported by several pro-wrestling “news” sites that Shelly Martinez has announced her retirement from pro-wrestling, Shelly confirmed to me that she is not retiring from wrestling.
After training at EWF’s School of Hard Knocks, she began her career wrestling under the name Desire. She was nominated for both the 2002 Southern California rookie of the year and the 2002 Southern California tag-team of the year for her team with Threat. After a falling out with EWF, in 2003 she began working for other promotions in Southern California, making her debut with UPW, AWS, and Revolution X.
In 2005 she signed a WWE developmental contract after doing some training at Ohio Valley Wrestling. In 2006 she made her main roster debut as Ariel in WWE’s version of ECW. She remained with WWE until 2007 when she was released after a confrontation with Dave Bautista. Soon after she began wrestling for TNA as Salinas. She remained in TNA until 2008.
After her time in TNA she wrestled throughout the world in such places as Perros del Mal in Mexico, Dragon Gate USA, and World Wrestling Fan Xperience in the Philippines. In Southern California she wrestled for EWF, AWS, Revolution X, Santino Bros., Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, Grindhouse, and Vendetta Pro among others. She most recently wrestled in Southern California for Women of Wrestling on October 14th. She is scheduled for Freakshow Wrestling in Las Vegas on December 17th.
You can read her interview for SCU with Jay Cal’s from 2003 here.

Baja Stars has announced the main event for their January 21st show in San Diego. It will feature Rey Fenix and Misterioso Jr. taking on Pentagon Jr. and Rayden. This is likely to be their biggest show to date, and front row tickets sold out in four hours.
—
Though it hasn’t been announced by PCW yet, Matt Riddle will not be at their January 20th show as he will be wrestling for Revolution Pro in England on January 21st. The time difference, travel time, and start times of the 2 shows would make it impossible to make both.
—
SoCal Pro will be holding a show at their training facility in Escondido on December 18th. Admission is free with a new toy donation, or $10 without. The only announced match so far is Ricky Mandel versus Hunter Freeman.
—
UEW has announced Max X and JD Horror as the 4th and 5th entrants into their deathmatch tournament, Sovereign of Slaughter, on December 17th.
—
Championship Wrestling from Hollywood’s David Marquez will be premiering a new MMA and boxing television program called Golden State Fight Network later this month. It will be a 30 minute highlight program and will be co-produced by Bash Boxing and Lights Out Promotions. No channels have been announced yet.
—
Thunder Rosa and Christina Von Eerie will both be on February 18th’s Sabotage show. It hasn’t been announced what their roles will be on the show but when asked if they would be facing each other in a non-tournament match I was told “No. It’s a surprise. There will be some curveballs thrown in.”

The first webpoll for the 2016 Southern California Match of the Year, covering January through April, has opened. You can head to the SCU message board to vote.
