Jay Cal’s View #146

Make sure you get out to the Wrestling Guy Store this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Besides getting autographs and photo ops make sure you visit the store.  Talk to the guys.  Most importantly, buy something.  Anything.  There aren’t many institutions in Southern California that actually feed the wrestling fan base.  Show them that they’re needed with the almighty dollar.  Thanks!

A Fundraiser for the Wrestling Guys Store
This week the Wrestling Guys pull out all the stops to save the Wrestling Guy Store, including autograph signings and photo ops with Alpha Omega Woman’s Champion and Internet Darling Lufisto, Lucha Underground’s Melissa Santos, former WWE Diva Melina, and some of the UEW talent.  The Wrestling Guy Store started off as a vendor at a swapmeet.  They’ve been serving SoCal since 2005.  They sell a myriad of merchandise from WWE and Lucha Underground apparel to action figures, JR’s Beef Jerky, trading cards, glasses, and more memorabilia.  It also offers unique fan experiences; hosting autograph sessions and photo ops with some of the top wrestling stars of now and yesteryear.  Besides offering a niche market to wrestling fans, the Wrestling Guys also have a really entertaining podcast.  If you’re in need of some figures or any kind of WWE related merchandise, please come out to support the Wrestling Guy Store this weekend.  Their shop offers a lot for the Southern California fanbase, go show them that they are needed by making a purchase this weekend.  Don’t just go get an autograph/photo with the ladies, go buy a John Cena T-Shirt or an Undertaker Figure.  I really hope that this weekend’s efforts keep the Wrestling Guy Store open.

GoFundMe
Now I wouldn’t say I’m against the spirit of crowd funding, I’m certainly disappointed in the way it’s being used by people within the wrestling industry.  Most recently former NWA Womans Champion Barbi Hayden recently created a gofundme account with the title of “Chasing Her Dreams.”  She’s already raised $985 of her $3,500 goal.  Her goal is to relocate to Florida in hopes of landing a spot in TNA, WWE, etc.  You ever want something so bad you can taste it.  This is your passion; this is what you have chosen to do in life.  And you want it more than anything.  So, you start a go fund me campaign and hope others will finance your dreams.  Not exactly what I would call doing whatever the F It takes, to be successful.  To me this is the antithesis of hustle.  Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana, Joey Ryan, Raze, Yuma, Ryan Kidd, you know what they all have in common, besides wrestling.  Hustle.  They hustle.  They’ve cultivated their fan base.  They interact with their fan base, but most importantly, they market to their fan base.  Toys, T-Shirts, Slap Bracelets, 8×10 Glossies, Pins, Hankies, whatever it is… they are doing business.  I’d be more inclined to help someone chasing their dreams if they’re selling me a t-shirt.  If you have a fan base, use your fan base.  Asking for handouts seems bush league.  I respect the hustle.  I support the hustle.  Barbi Hayden has wrestled for the NWA, WSU, ROH, in 13 states as well as Canada, Mexico, and China.  She has a fan base.  I’m all for everyone chasing their dream, I just feel like if you’re really chasing it, you aren’t asking for handouts.  If you disagree, leave a comment on the bottom and let me know.
