Lucha Underground Season 4, Episode 6: Break The Machine Review

We start with a recap of things that happened in previous episodes. Inside the Ice Temple, Mariachi El Bronx were playing a song. Matt Striker and Vampiro welcome the audience to the show as the band finishes their song. They went over the lineup for this week’s episode before the action gets started.

Ancient Azteca Medallion Match: Paul London w/ The Rabbit Tribe vs. Dezmond X

Matt Striker talked about how the Rabbit Tribe are now “darker” than they were before. This was the debut of Dezmond X (Dezmond Xavier) in Lucha Underground. Saltador and Mala Suerte ran into the ring before the match started to distract Dezmond and to give Paul London an early advantage. Saltador and Mala Suerte would get involved throughout the match to help Paul London early on, but Dezmond fought them off. The match story revolved mainly around Dezmond trying to fight off Saltador and Mala Suerte at ringside while London tried to take advantage. Dezmond would eventually get the win after countering a Double Chickenwing Slam into a victory roll on London.

After a commercial break, Antonio Cueto walked out of his office as the Gift of the Gods Championship was on display at ringside. He announced that there will be a match next week for the Gift of the Gods belt. He then introduced each competitor as they came out and placed their medallions on the belt.

Dragon Azteca Jr., King Cuerno, Ivelisse, Dezmond X, Son of Havoc, The Mack, and Mil Muertes all came out and placed their medallions in the belt. After doing so, they stood in the ring. Antonio said only six of them will be competing next week. He then made a Battle Royal with the winner getting to choose who is out of the match next week.

Battle Royal: Dragon Azteca Jr vs. King Cuerno vs. Ivelisse vs. Dezmond X vs. Son of Havoc vs. The Mack vs. Mil Muertes

The match began with Mil Muertes eliminating everyone. As he was eliminating Dragon Azteca, Mack and Havoc snuck up from behind and eliminated Mil from the match. After Mil was eliminated, he stood at ringside and stared at Mack and Havoc in anger. Inside the ring, Havoc told Mack something and then eliminated himself by diving onto the other competitors at ringside. After the match, Antonio asked The Mack who he wants to keep out of the match next week. The Mack got on the mic and said: “The Mack is afraid of no man, but Mil Muertes scares the shit out of me.” The Mack then picked Mil Muertes. Mil would proceed to attack everyone at ringside as the show went to commercial.

Order Of Eliminations:

King Cuerno by Mil Muertes
Ivelisse by Mil Muertes
Dezmond X by Mil Muertes
Dragon Azteca, Jr. by Mil Muertes
Mil Muertes by Son of Havoc and The Mack
Son of Havoc eliminated by himself.

We return from a commercial and see someone driving in a car on the streets LA on screen as Mariachi El Bronx played inside the Ice Temple. Melissa Santos then introduced the next match.

Vibora w/ Kobra Moon vs. Johnny Mundo w/ Taya

The match started out with both men exchanging strikes. Taya and Kobra Moon would end up getting involved in the match early on. They both entered the ring and Taya took out Kobra Moon with a spear. This would distract Vibora and allowed Johnny Mundo to take advantage, who was getting some offense in the early part of the match. This would not affect Vibora, who took control of the match after Johnny Mundo was on offense. Mundo would later mount a comeback. At one point in the match, Mundo would head to the top rope and acted like he was going after Vibora, but instead did a dive to the outside on Kobra Moon as she stood at ringside.

After the dive, PJ Black would come out to ringside and hit Vibora with a chair outside of the ring as referee Justin Borden was being distracted by Taya inside of it. Johnny Mundo then superkicked referee Justin Borden out of frustration when he couldn’t finish Vibora. Taya and PJ would enter the ring to set Vibora up for a chair shot from Johnny Mundo before Daga and Drago made the save. Inside the ring, the match continued. Vibora would get some offense and had an advantage. Ricky Mundo would run out to pull Johnny out of the ring when he was in trouble. This would lead to Vibora hitting an Asai Moonsault from the corner onto both men outside of the ring. Johnny would try to mouth a comeback, but Vibora caught Johnny as Johnny went for a springboard move. Vibora then hit a Chokeslam on Johnny to get the win.

Worldwide Underground hit the ring after the match and attacked Kobra Moon and Vibora with chairs. Daga and Drago also hit the ring and everyone began brawling as the show went to a commercial break.

After a commercial break, Jack Evans is inside some dirty room spying on XO Lishus. Ricky Mundo is also there with his creepy doll. Ricky would ask why Jack was nowhere to be found, and Jack explained to him that he doesn’t fight reptiles. Evans would leave, and the doll said Ricky should do to him what he did to Angelico. Back inside the Ice Temple, Melissa Santos introduces the main event.

Lucha Underground Championship Match: Pentagon Dark (c) vs. Cage

The match would start after a commercial break with Cage going after Pentagon Dark, and they would brawl around the Ice Temple for a few minutes. Cage would have the upper hand early on, throwing Pentagon Dark around and slamming him on the floor and apron. He would then tie the tassels on Pentagon Dark’s mask to the bleachers and beat up on him for a bit. Pentagon Dark would escape as Cage tried to hit him with a chair, and Pentagon Dark would hit a Slingblade.

The two would take the match inside of the ring, and Cage would begin to control things on offense again. The match would eventually even out in the final sequences of the match with the two men exchanging moves. The finish would see Pentagon Dark would hit two Mexican Destroyers, followed by a Package Piledriver for the win.

After the match, Pentagon Dark would lay out Cage with the Lucha Underground Championship belt. He held it in Cage’s face as Cage was on the ground, and tried to break his arm. Cage would fight out of it and hit an F-5 on Pentagon Dark onto the Lucha Underground title. Cage then grabbed the belt and a mic, and told Pentagon Dark can’t break his arm as he’s not a man, but a machine. The episode ends with Pentagon Dark laying in the ring in pain as Cage walked out of the Ice Temple.

Final Thoughts

This was a really fun episode of Lucha Underground. It was full of action and there weren’t many corny angles. The opening match scene was really fun, and the main event scene was an enjoyable brawl. I’m really interested in seeing where the Cage vs. Pentagon angle goes from here.
