This CHAOS COLUMN is a recap of Wrestling Cares Association’s “Ultimate Fun Time” at American Legion Post #46, Culver City December 7th 2013. WCA made the most of the smaller venue to fill the hall with fans for the show hosted by Shelly Martinez. This night, WCA raised $500 to Wildlife Waystation, to help them cover the high upkeep of raising all kinds of animals found throughout Los Angeles County.
* RFTR Semifinal Format: 15-min. Ironman Regulation Match, 3-min. Sudden Death OT. * Ladies “Beat The Champ” Format: 10-min. Ironwoman Regulation Match, 3-min. Sudden Death OT. * Posted times for scoring decisions are approximate.
1 – First Match in the Golden State Tag Team Tourney. Forever Hooligans (Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov) def. The Ballard Bros. when Rocky p. Shane with their team finisher.
2 – Zero Tolerance singles match. Drake Younger p. D.J. Hyde with Drake’s Landing in what was a very good match.
3 – Second Match in the Golden State Tag Team Tourney. Timothy Thatcher & Oliver John def. Ryan Taylor & Scorpio Sky when Oliver p. Ryan with the Scoop Slam to end what was a very technical match.
4 – First “Race for the Ring Tournament” Semifinal Match. Drake Younger def. Papadon 2-1 * 7:15 – Papadon scored with the Brainbuster for the pin * 11:30 – Gargano scored with a rollup for the pin * 14:40 – Gargano scored the eventual winner with a Bridge cover for the pin Midway through this match, Johnny Gargano got his nose busted up, but obviously, he was able to continue. Otherwise, this was a strong match between the DGUSA champ, and the former ECWA champ.
5 – Les Thatcher’s Ladies “Beat The Champ” series. Katarina Leigh def. Tracy Taylor 2-1 * 2:20 – Tracy scored with the Bronco Buster for the pin * 5:30 – Katarina scored with the Neckbreaker to the knee for the pin * 8:45 – Katarina scored the eventual winner with the rollup for the pin With this win over the GCW & Shine star, the former Winter & Katie Lea Burchill will get a highly renowned opponent for the 1/18/14 final in the form of Cheerleader Melissa.
SM – Golden State Tag Team Tourney Final between Forever Hooligans and Timothy Thatcher & Oliver John was ruled a No Contest by Les Thatcher, after he overturned the decision from Referee Jay Stone on the initial pinfall by Alex Koslov on Oliver John, due to the in-ring interference by Rocky Romero. The two tag team will decide it under RFTR tournament rules on 1/18/14.
M – Second “Race for the Ring Tournament” Semifinal. Adam Cole def. Steve Anthony 3-2 in OT * 4:45 – Cole scored with the Yakuza Kick for the pin * 5:50 – Anthony scored with the German Suplex for the pin * 8:05 – Anthony scored with the rollup into a Bridge Cover for the pin * 12:15 – Cole scored with a countering cover for the pin * :25 left in OT – Cole won the cover battle for the winning pin The ROH & PWG champ did it in typical Cole fashion with the surprise counter-cover.
So Cal could be in for a real treat with a potential “mini-feud” between Adam Cole & Johnny Gargano, with a possible PWG title match on “ASW X Saturday”, and their RFTR final on the 1/18/14 WCA show. My choice for MOTN goes to the Gargano/Papadon match, followed by the Drake/Hyde match, then the Cole/Anthony match.
