This week in the View, I’ve got free beer on the brains and I’m going to NWA Hollywood to get some. Have you checked out the territory league yet? Gary Yap shares his thoughts on making a good promo, if you are a luchador and want to be photographed, I’ll give you some info, the Urban Pay Per View in on demand today, also wanted to give a bit of thanks and I talk about some changes coming to SCU. No Spotlight This Week, it will return in the next view, but we’ve got three nights of wrestling this weekend, make sure you support your local indy wrestling.
FREE BEER at NWA Hollywood
The Biggest Event of this weekend is going to be the NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood Television Taping. After the last television taping, the NWA Hollywood group sent out a press-release sending an invitation to the locked out NFL Players to come work for the NWA. Although I wouldn’t expect to Clay Matthews or Hines Ward show up Sunday afternoon, the promoters in Hollywood might have found another way to entice you to pack the Regent Theater. FREE BEER. Personally I can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday then watching the NWA and drinking a cool beer. And as an added bonus, if you print this flier you can get $5 off. Also the Night of the Grudges should include a lot of great action. I am really looking forward to it. I did a brief write up of the event for the examiner, you can read here
A few weeks ago in my Jay Cal’s View #32, I made the comparison of TNA’s X-Division title with SoCal’s own Maximum Title. Another California original concept looks to be emulated with All Wheels Wrestling, which comes to us by the producers of TNA. So I have to admit, I don’t know much about the Territory League. I only watched the first 5 minutes of the first episode. The production itself seems pretty nice. What I make of it is, a wrestling team (Each team has a heavyweight, a tag team, a light weight and a singles wrestler. They wrestle a best of 5 series, all 5 matches in a row, with the wrestlers waiting in the containment cells until they’re match is up.) I find it interesting that they paired up Todd Keneley and K-Ross. I will reserve judgment until I watch an entire episode. If you are looking some alternative to what is on the web right now, you should check it out, visit www.territoryleague.com
The Art of a Well Delivered Promo
Gary Yap discusses what makes a good promo. Excellent points, although it made me want a burger. I think all upcoming wrestlers should watch this video.
Be Famous
I’ve received word from Kevin Klienrock that a new photo book is in the works featuring Luchadors. Of course Southern California has some of the best luchadors in the country, if you are a luchador or a friend/fan of someone who is, and would like to be included please email 2-3 photos along with contact info to casting@maskedrepublic.com.
Urban PPVs
The Urban Wrestling Federation PPV featuring Southern California names like Scorpio Sky, Famous B, and Willie Mack is now available. “First Blood” is on iNDemand PPV, Today at 4PM. And will be available all day on DirecTV.
Thanks RingScoops
Another special thanks to Wade Needham and the entire RingScoops.com crew for allowing us to post their live stream of the Empire Wrestling Federation’s “As Seen On Television.” I think Wade does a pretty good job of bringing EWF to those of you who aren’t able to make it out to their shows.
Changes?
Changes to the SCU site are coming. We’re looking to enhance your experience even further. One of the things I’m most excited about is seeing a Media Section. Ideally we’d be able to showcase all of the shows/videos that are made available by the various promoters. Promotions like Mach-1 and SoCal Pro make highlight reels for each show, Battleground puts their entire shows out there, Fit Pit releases their Fight Night on the Pit on Thursdays and NWA Hollywood releases their entire show on Wednesday.
No Spot Light This Week – Time Crunch is preventing it. I’ll make up for it next week.
