MMA legend Chuck Liddell will officially come out of retirement for a third bout against his longtime rival, Tito Oritz.
As reported by Brett Okamoto on ESPN.com and announced in an interview by Liddell for an upcoming episode of Larry King Now, Chuck Liddell (MMA Record: 21-8) has agreed to face his longtime rival, Tito Ortiz (MMA Record: 19-12-1) at the Forum in Inglewood on November 24th, 2018. The full interview is scheduled to air on September 3rd, 2018.
The bout is set to be promoted by boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. It will be the first Mixed Martial Arts event promoted by De La Hoya’s boxing promotion.
Liddell and Ortiz had previously fought at UFC 47 in 2004, and at UFC 66 in 2006. Liddell would defeat Ortiz via KO/TKO on both occasions.
This bout is slated to be Liddell’s first fight since June 12, 2010, where he suffered a knockout loss to Rich Franklin at UFC 115. After going 1-5 in his last six bouts, with his last three losses all by way of knockout, Liddell retired from competition.
Tito Ortiz will be coming out of a second retirement for Golden Boy MMA’s first event, having last fought on January 21, 2017 at the Forum in Inglewood for Bellator MMA. In that bout, Ortiz defeated Chael Sonnen via Submission. Prior to his second retirement, Oritz went 3-1 in Bellator MMA, with two of those wins coming by way of submission.
Rumors of the bout between the MMA legends promoted by Golden Boy Promotions had been floating around for months. Earlier in the week, reports began to surface that the California State Athletic Commission were in the process of approving licenses for Ortiz and Liddell.
The third bout between Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz is scheduled to air live on Pay-Per-View.
