Santino Bros. will be holding their next show, “Heavy is the Crown” on September 22nd at the Downey Elks Lodge in Downey, CA, which will be their first official show outside of their school in Bell Gardens in nearly two years. The show will not only feature both of the promotions titles being defended, but will also feature the Sabotage championship, that was crowned in Los Angeles, being defended in Southern California for the first time. Also, the ceremony inducting Joey “Kaos” Munoz and Superboy into the Southern California Pro-Wrestling Hall of Fame will be taking place at the event.
Tyler Bateman will be defending the Santino Bros. Championship in a three-way match against fellow members of the Freakshow stable, Ruby Raze and Brody King. Bateman has held the title for nearly a year, having defeated Joey Kaos for it on October 28, 2016. Since winning the title he has successfully defended it five times (he lost one match via DQ) including defeating Brody King twice in that time frame.
The Santino Bros. Submission championship will also be defended, when Eli Everfly puts the title up in a match with his long time nemesis Douglas James in an “I Quit” match. Despite numerous matches against each other over the last few years, the two wrestlers have not met in a match in Southern California since April 28, 2017 when Douglas James last challenged for the Submission championship. That match ended in a time limit draw. This will be Eli Everfly’s third title defense.
Delilah Doom won the Sabotage championship by winning a tournament on Sabotage Wrestling’s second show back on February 18, 2017 in East Los Angeles, and the belt has not been seen in Southern California since. Ruby Raze actually won the number one contendership to the title, and was tentatively scheduled to face Delilah Doom on a FIST Combat show before the most recent Sabotage show in Imperial Beach, but when FIST lost its venue, that match was scraped. As Ruby Raze is involved in the Santino Bros. title picture, Doom will instead be facing Heather Monroe. Monroe was eliminated in the second round of the Sabotage title tournament back in February, and has yet to hold any titles in wrestling. This will be the first singles meeting between the two wrestlers.
The Southern California Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame induction of Joey “Kaos” Munoz and Superboy will mark the first two living inductees into the hall of fame since Super Dragon was inducted in 2010. Both Kaos and Superboy have made huge contributions to the wrestling scene in Southern California as both wrestlers and trainers and have played a large part in shaping the scene today. Very few independent shows in the area don’t feature at least one wrestler that was trained by either guy.
Also on the show will be the team of True Grit (Jesse James & Hoss Hogg) taking on Los Luchas (Zokre & Phoenix Star); Tito Escondido versus Alonzo Alvarez in a number one contenders match for the Submission championship; Jorel Nelson taking on Robby Phoenix; and Suede Thompson meeting up with Jake Atlas.
“Heavy is the Crown” takes place on September 22, 2017 at the Downey Elks Lodge at 11233 Woodruff Ave. in Downey, CA. Bell time is at 8:30 pm with doors opening at 7:00 pm. Tickets are on sale now.
