Korean Zombie vs. Ricardo Lamas, Renan Barao vs. Aljamain Sterling added to UFC 214 in Anaheim

The Los Angeles Times’ Lance Pugmire reported the additions of several new bouts earlier today for UFC’s 214 in Anaheim, CA.

UFC featherweight contender Ricardo Lamas (MMA Record: 17-5) will be going up against the “Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung (MMA Record: 14-4) at the UFC’s return to Anaheim, and former UFC Bantamweight Champion Renan Barao (MMA Record: 35-4) will face Aljamain Sterling (MMA Record: 13-2).

After missing three years of action due to injuries and mandatory military service in his native country, the “Korean Zombie” Chan Sun Jung will look to earn his second straight victory since he returned to the UFC when he defeated Dennis Bermudez on February 4th, 2017 in Houston, Texas. Jung’s opponent, Ricardo Lamas, is also looking for his second straight victory after defeating Charles Olivera on November 5th, 2016 in Mexico City, Mexico. A bout between Jung and Lamas was once set to take place on July 6th, 2013 in Las Vegas, NV but was called off after Jung was pulled from the fight to replace an injured Anthony Petits in a bout against the UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo on August 3rd, 2013.

After being on the losing end of two straight fights via split decision, bantamweight prospect Aljamain Sterling was able to get back in the winner’s circle when he defeated Augusto Mendes in Kansas City, Missouri. Now he looks to gain more momentum as he goes up against the former bantamweight champion Renan Bararo, who is also looking to gain some momentum as he makes his return to the UFC’s bantamweight division.

Other bouts announced for UFC 214 in Anaheim, CA on July 29th, 2017 include a women’s strawweight fight between Kailin Curran (MMA Record: 4-4) and Alexandra Albu (MMA Record: 2-0), a lightweight bought with Josh Burkman (MMA Record: 29-15) facing Drew Dober (17-8), a heavyweight bout with Dmitry Smoliakov (MMA Record: 8-2) going up against the debuting Adam Wieczorek (MMA Record: 8-1), and a flyweight bout with the undefeated Jarred Brooks (MMA Record: 12-0) making his UFC debut against Eric Shelton (MMA Record: 10-3).

UFC 214 is also scheduled to feature a UFC Light Heavyweight Championship bout between current champion Daniel Cormier defending his title against former champion Jon “Bones” Jones, and Doo Ho Choi vs. Andre Fili in a featherweight bout.
