Jay Cal’s View #164

“I want to thank them and I want to thank them for what they taught me, which is that you have to work harder than you think you possibly can. You can’t hold grudges. It’s hard but you can’t hold grudges. And it doesn’t matter how you get knocked down in life because that’s going to happen. All that matters is you gotta get up…” — Ben Affleck

2016 Hall of Fame Class
The 2016 Class of the Southern California Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame was announced earlier this week.  Introduced into this year’s class is Bobo Brazil, The Late Cincinnati Red, and Sandor Szabo.  A lot of you are probably echoing what Steve said about this year’s class, “Wish we would have got the votes in last year.”  Red said back in 2001 on one of this sites’ first interviews, “I think when It’s all said and done, I just want to be remembered as a good worker, someone that was popular with the boys in the back. It would mean ten times more to me to be in some kind of Hall of Fame than to be a former world champion of some kind. A lifetime achievement is better than a short championship run.”

Rudo Can’t Fail
Anyone who is a member of the Lucha Loot Crate subscription service has probably seen this great little magazine produced by the fellas over at Masked Republic. What it basically is, a Lucha Magazine, written in English. It covers Lucha, even our very own SoCal Lucha Indy Scene. I recently wrote a piece about Lucha Libre and Championship Wrestling from Hollywood and their connection for Issue #1. I also contributed to the magazine for their next issue talking about Revolution Pro. I hope you guys will check it out.

2015 Year End Awards
I’m still waiting on a few more ballots to announce the Southern California Year End Awards, but I think a lot of people will be shocked by the results. I do not want to divulge any of the results, but just looking at the On-line polls that account for 35% of the vote. Remember these are the final awards, these are just the on-line polls. Match of the Year: was tied with The Young Bucks & Super Dragon vs. Andrew Everett, Trevor Lee & Biff Busick (PWG 8/29) and Brandon Gatson vs. Sasha Darevko (EWF 7/3), The Rookie of the Year: Douglas James, Paul T. Most Outstanding Wrestler of 2015: is tied between Gary Yap’s Man In Black and Tommy Wilson, Tag Team of the Year: The Young Bucks, Promotion of the Year: Lucha Underground, and Wrestler of the Year: is tied between B-Boy and Sasha Darevko. Again these aren’t actual the award winners, but this is what the message board voters selected.

Rosas Report
Ray talks about his new alliance in UEW named HATE, featuring Ray, Che Cabrera, Tito Escondido, Rico Dynamite, and Damian Arsenic. Ray waxes poetic about his relationship with HATE and what they have planned for Underground Empire Wrestling.  Ray also plugs this years Hall of Fame.  Ray’s podcasts hover around insider, but still feel they are made for fans.  I honestly think his podcasts should be must listening for everyone trying to break into wrestling in Southern California.
