Not going to lie. There are a bunch of articles on the website now that I’m really proud of. Roy’s piece on Vampiro, Steve’s look back at the Rookie class of 2001, Andrew’s history of Reseda, and a few more. If you’re only reading Reviews and Recaps, you’re really missing some great content. Although it’s been a relatively slow news week, we’ve been busy. Hope you’re enjoying some of the articles. Big week of wrestling and we got some details.
Daniel Bryan Retires
Daniel Bryan Retired from the WWE. If you only knew Daniel Bryan from his career in the WWE, he’s basically the Sandy Koufax of the WWE. But for some of us who knew him as “The American Dragon” Bryan Danielson, you know that this over night sensation was working around the world before being a regular roster member of the WWE. Andrew shared a “Special Look at the ‘American Dragon’ Bryan Danielson’s Career in SoCal” I also wrote a piece on the day that Bryan Danielson debuted in SoCal. And a third piece from the Alliance appeared that talked about had it not been for that eye injury, Bryan Danielson would have been NWA World Champion. It is sad that his career was cut short. But he really did accomplish everything there was do to in professional wrestling. I’m very excited to see what comes next from the American Dragon.
2015 Year End Awards
The ballots are closing soon on the Match of the Year category and the 2015 Year End Awards will be announced soon. My goal when I took over this job from Adair was to have this process completed before the end of January. It really isn’t as easy as it looks on the surface. There will be some tweaking to the Year End Awards in 2016. Hopefully all of you that weren’t happy with the list of nominations will make them in 2016. I also hope that when the board reopens, all those who wished to vote on the the polls will register with the site and join in on the conversation. The board has been revitalized lately and the conversation is always welcomed. But to my point, it looks like the awards will be announced in March. Thank you for everyone who participated. And for next year, we’ll shoot for the end of January.
Empire Wrestling Federation: SB Strong
Just another reminder about the card for the victims of 12/02 and their families. EWF will be holding a fundraiser on April 15th 2016. The show will take place at the Fox Theater in Downtown San Bernardino, just a mile or two from where the shootings took place. Tickets will be as $10. Anyone looking to help the benefit can contact the EWF Office. San Bernadino has been synonymous with the Empire Wrestling Federation for as long as I can remember and I am planning to be in attendance.
Please Help Jon Ian & Ben Tomas
Some of us ave already donated to both Jon Ian and to Ben Tomas. And if you haven’t and can afford to, you should. Steve (of the famed Steve’s View) has declared that anyone who shoots a screen cap, proof of donating to Jon and Ben) he’ll return the favor by sending you the elusive Support Indy Wrestling Stickers. These stickers used to be handed out at wrestling shows. I’ll double down on that. Shoot me an email and I’ll send you the elusive SCU pins. Deal? Let’s help these guys out. Any amount will help with their medical expenses. Just click on either of their names on top and you’ll be taken to their support page.
Rosas Report
I’ve become a big fan of the Rosas Report. Ray is self-deprecating, but it always feels like you’re laughing with him, not at him. Ray gives a lot of great insight into what’s going on in the Southern California Wrestling Scene. This week Ray gives some real talk about what’s the difference of being a wrestler and a playing wrestling (not his words). If you’re a fan or involved in the SoCal Wrestling Scene, you should definitely listen to this podcast. Click here to give it a listen.
United Wrestling Network
Championship Wrestling from Hollywood will be holding a rare double-shot this weekend when they appear as part of the SOMA Street Food Park, Saturday February 13th, the same day as the debut on KOFY in San Francisco. For those who are making the trek up to San Fran or are reading from NorCal, matches scheduled are: Kratos Vs. Sasha Darevko, Kingpin Vs. “Guy Cool” Austin Harmon, Jervis Cottonbelly Vs. Yuma, Brody King Vs. Doug James, Classic Connection Vs. CCW, and Eli Drake Vs. “Pretty” Peter Avalon.
They’ll follow it up with their next TV Taping at the Oceanview Pavillion on Valentine’s Day February 14th.
The Main Event for this weekend is Sasha Darevko vs. “Pretty” Peter Avalon. This match has a lot of potential to be one of the best matches all year. Sasha Darevko doesn’t get enough credit for how good he is. Peter Avalon might be the best Wrestler in Southern California.

How come this guy Andrew cusses so much, it is a real turn off and he is showing his intelligence. Your pieces here are great
Its his writing style. Some people prefer Eddie Murphy RAW, some prefer the Nutty Professor.
Fuckitty fuck fuck fuck, my name’s Andrew, I like saying fuck fuck.
Retarding the Rosas podcast, the part where he talks about thinking he won’t make it really makes me want to have a talk with him about that.
You are a real loser ANDREW, I hope you are at the CWFH taping tomorrow
Actually I’m not a loser, I’m a jiu-jitsu champion 🙂 And only losers go to wrestling shows on Valentine’s Day. Sorry bruh, I got more important things to do.
Great job Jay, the site is bustling again there are some real quality pieces on our local history being posted. I also like the comparison of Daniel Bryan as the Sandy Koufax of WWE. He really retired way too soon.
Hope to see you Sunday at CWFH
I really like the direction the site is going. The goal has always been to promote the future, talk about the present, preserve the past.
