The Week before Wrestlemania and SoCal is stacked full of wrestling. WWE is coming to town, Lucha Underground, CWFH, Lucha Libre, Santinos… it’ll be a busy weekend. CWFH is going National (again), Full Contact Wrestling LA announces a big time cancellation (again), AWS Lucky 13 is stacked, and updates to United Wrestling Network.
CWFH announces new National TV Deal
Local wrestling fans were mostly unaffected by the new of the MavTV/CWFH national television broadcasting partnership had come to an end. CWFH has continued to air on KDOC 56 at its 3AM spot Saturday Night/Sunday Morning slot. However fans across the country were left out as Mav turned their attention to include exclusively motor sports. That’s why the announcement of Championship Wrestling from Hollywood’s newest National Television deal (that will begin on April 4th) as part of YouToo America was pretty special. YouToo America is currently available around the country on Timer Warner and Comcast. For San Diegans who have Time Warner, you can find them on channel 186. But it’s also aired over the air in; Albany, Macon, Nashvlle, Pensacola, Portland, Salem, Salt Lake City, State College, and Twin Falls. The channel also airs in Fresno California. YouToo America was partially created by Mark Burnet. Burnet known around the world for producing such shows as Survivor, The Apprentice, Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader, The Voice, and Shark Tank, but probably better known to wrestling fans as the executive producer of Lucha Underground. What does this specifically mean for Championship Wrestling from Hollywood? Well obviously financials are not made available for public consumption, but this ultimately gives CWFH another avenue to air their wrestling shows that were previously removed when their deal with MavTV ended. One of the immediate impacts for being available nationally and a few select markets with over the air antennae, there is more exposure for the brand and the talent that work on the shows. All in all it won’t impact local wrestling fans who may continue to watch CWFH programming on KDOC or even via Patreon, but this can only be described as good news for the folks involved in producing CWFH.
Full Contact Wrestling LA: Card Subject to Change…
It wasn’t all that long ago that Full Contact Wrestling who had booked the comical luchador Super Porky to wrestle at their weekly A Mi Hacienda shows was forced to replace the wrestler with Chavo Guerrero Sr. (who in my personal opinion is a far more entertaining wrestler) because of an alleged injury that Porky worked on the following Monday. Mil Mascaras was scheduled to be apart of their February 21st show, which was rescheduled for March 21st. From what I was told, many fans were not given notice of the initial cancellation and ended up going to AWS that night instead. Well now the rescheduled night has also been canceled, Mascaras will not be at FCW LA this weekend. Be it awful luck or poor management, this is the third time FCW LA have had to make a change in their card. The unreliable nature of their guest bookings from Mexico will continue to hurt their reputation. My unsolicited advice; stop trying to book the big names of Mexico and concentrate on putting a great local product for the lucha libre fans. You can only burn the fans so many times before they will give up on you.
AWS Lucky 13
AWS always attempt to out do themselves, Saturday Night is no different. The 20 Person Battle Royal (a throw back to the California bygone era) will feature some names from the past and present of AWS. Already announced of the 20 are; former XPW World Champion Johnny Webb, the last XPW Deathmatch Champion Supreme, former AWS Heavyweight Champion Human Tornado, former AWS Lightweight Champions – Lil Nate, Kadillak, and El Ridiculoso, Warhog, Mikey O’Shea, Sexy Chino, Hector Canales, The Unholly, Roadhouse, Steven Andrews, Super Boy Sr. and Super Boy Jr., Jacob “The Riot” Diez, Mondo Vega, Indu Jr., Biggie Biggs, and TEREX. There are three more names to be announced and this Battle Royal will emulate the Royal Rumble. AWS apologizes in advance for not being able to keep the scheduled match of Scorpio Sky and Sonjay Dutt vs. Sabu and Lil Cholo, however the match will still take place with Ryan Taylor substituting for Dutt in this epic encounter. B-Boy will defend his AWS Championship against Willie Mack in what could be a match of the year candidate. PPRay defend the AWS Tag Titles against Reno Scum. The Lightweight Championship will be on the line when Mariachi Loco challenges the “Laser Focused” Famous B. And LuFisto returns to SoCal against Raze. With such a stacked card, you don’t want to miss this show.
UWN on Patreon
Recently added to the video offerings of the United Wrestling Network are the 201st Episode featuring the Heritage Tag Champions PPRay defending against the Tim Thatcher and Drew Gulak, the debut of the Mavericks vs. Leo Blaze and Cedric King, Che Cabrera vs. JR Kratos and Ryan Taylor vs. Dom de la Vega. Outside of the bonus match of Daniel Bryan vs. Sean Waltman and AJ Styles vs. Trent Baretta (which never aired on KDOC TV or MavTV) episodes start as far back as July and are being updated all the time with the shows before they air on KDOC. Being familiar with the vault of David Marquez, I know there are many more gems that should be popping up soon, plus the hundreds of hours of television that has been produced under the CWFH or NWA Hollywood banner. If you are a fan of wrestling, I can’t see a better value than $2 a month for that ever growing library and I can’t recommend it enough.
