December 20th, AWS/PWB Supershow at American Legion Post #335, South Gate. Another capacity crowd was on hand for one of the last wrestling events of the year, and boy, was it a barn burner.
1 – PPRay (Peter Avalon & Ray Rosas) successfully defended the AWS Tag Team titles over EWF Tag Team Champions The Fallen Empire (Ryan Taylor & Mondo Vega)
Very strong opener that was a see-saw battle. PPA scored the pin on Mondo after they hit their team finisher.
2 – CJ Kurz p. Harry Henderson
Although he got pinned off of the Shooting Star Press, the one-legged Harry Henderson showed some amazing moves for a big man, hopping on just one leg.
3 – Sage Sin Supreme & Ruby Raze beat Renee Michelle & Kahmora
Strong ladies match that saw Sage & Raze take control late, with Raze dumping Renee on top of Kahmora, then assisted on Sage’s Leg Drop for the pin on Renee.
4 – Brian Cage p. Timothy Thatcher
Great PWB singles match that was reasonably the most technical match on the card. “The Swolverine” hit the Discus Lariat for the pin.
5 – AWS Heavyweight Championship Four-Corners Elimination Match between B-Boy, Rocky Romero, Tyler Bateman, & Willie Mack
A great match that saw all four men have their share of the spotlight. Rocky used the same pinning method he used on Cholo at last month’s show to pin Willie Mack, only to get pinned later by B-Boy off the Shining Wizard. That left B-Boy & Tyler Bateman to do battle, and boy, did they have quite the battle. B-Boy got the Reversal Cradle pin to successfully defend the title.
6 – Drake Frost & Sir Samuri successfully defended the PWB Tag Team titles over Salt & Pimpin’ (Daniel Torch & Virgil Flynn)
Great tag team action that saw the big men of Drake Frost & Sir Samuri do some incredible moves on the much lighter, high-flying opponents. Sir Samuri was able to run across the ring from one corner, hop onto the shoulders of his tag team partner, then Drake lifted him up to allow him to grab both Daniel & Virgil for a Double-Superplex Combo. The big men then capped it with a Catapult/Top Rope Elbow Drop combo for Drake’s pin on Virgil.
SM – Famous B successfully defended the AWS Lightweight title over Lil Cholo
A great see-saw battle that was marred some by Rocky’s intervention, hitting his Roundhouse KO Kick on Cholo, to allow B to get the pin. Afterwards, Lil Cholo called out Rocky, and the two of them had a brief brawl in an impromptu match that was later ruled a No-Contest by Referee Rick Knox.
M – Adam Thornstowe successfully defended the PWB Heavyweight title over Chris Hero
Great back-and-forth action that saw Adam overcome those signature Elbow Strikes & Pump Kicks from Hero, hitting what looked like a Samoan Drop for the pin. Afterwards, he got laid out by Brian Cage, who is obviously gunning for the PWB title, perhaps at their next Nor Cal show.
Overall, a very strong card to conclude the 2014 season. While I don’t know who’s likely to be next to go after B-Boy’s Heavyweight title, I can see Cholo & Rocky continue their feud.
MOTN: Thornstowe v. Hero, then the PWB tag team title match, then the AWS Heavyweight title match.
