Recap of AWS Promotions “Bart’s Birthday Bash #12 – To Live? Or To Die?”, at the American Legion Post #335, South Gate on June 21st 2014. Another large turnout that was helped by a few large groups that had members celebrating their own birthdays.
1 – Mariachi Loco & Hector Canales def. Che Cabrera & Cedric The Hitman Good, comedic opener that saw Hector go “Real Man” on Che, giving him a “smooch”, then rolled him up for the pin, with a handful of tights that was not caught by Referee Jason McCord.
2 – Lil Cholo p. Rocky Romero Another great match that saw some good back-and-forth action, with Cholo hitting a Bulldog on Rocky for the pin.
3 – Women’s Champion Hudson Envy, & Raze def. Datura & Crystal White This was the 2nd straight AWS show that Datura took a tremendous beating, capped off [with a Saito Suplex] from Raze for the pin. Datura seemed to have hurt her left shoulder in that match, but was able to work the AWS/UIPW show the next day.
4 – El Ridiculoso successfully defended the Lightweight title over Fidel Bravo (w/ Che Cabrera). Another good, even match that saw Ridiculoso use a Rope-Assisted Spinning Reverse STO Neckbreaker for the pin.
5 – Jeckles The Jester (w/ Sage Sin Supreme) p. Willie Mack Yet another good match between the two. The Nor Cal import looked impressive in this match, using a Hero-like Discus Elbow to KO Willie for the pin.
6 – Terex p. Ryan Taylor (w/ Mondo Vega) Relatively short, but effective match off the intermission. The Fallen Empire duo were obviously decked out in L.A. Kings gear, but Ryan just had too much Terex to work with, getting his Perfect Circle attempt pushed off, and countered eventually into the 400-lb. Standing Moonsault for the pin.
7 – Tyler Bateman p. Famous B Probably the most technical match of the card, and probably the most evenly matched, too. Tyler was able to overcome 1 Flashing Lights bump, blocking the 2nd attempt, and hit his own Discus Elbow for the pin.
SM – Los Bandidos (Rico Dynamite & Tito Escondido) successfully defended the Tag team titles over Piloto Suicida & Pinky (who subbed for Shamu Jr.) A very good tag team match, with plenty of lucha libre in it. An incidental strike from Piloto onto Pinky left the lone L.A. F’er left out high & dry, allowing Rico & Tito to hit their team finisher for the pin. Afterwards, one lucky fan won a special raffle to take Piloto’s used mask right out of his head, who quickly donned the spare mask.
M – B-Boy successfully defended the Heavyweight title over Johnny Goodtime A strong main event that saw a a stack of leftover nachos in play, and at least a couple of the in-house chairs were busted apart, as bodies flew from the ring and onto the floor. B-Boy was able to overcome getting his right knee picked apart after it met a steel post, hitting the piledriver for the pin. Then the SBWA talents came out to deliver a message from B-Boy’s next opponent at the AWS/SBWA supershow next month, Kaos.

Plenty of intrigue going into next month’s supershow, that becomes one half, or one third, of a “Wrestling Superweekend”, along with PWG “Eleven”, and a CWFH taping. Hudson Envy should have plenty of confidence going into her next title defense against LuFisto, while I expect nothing less than a big battle for the other AWS & SBWA titles that are projected to be defended that night. MOTN, to me, goes to the Bateman/Famous B match, followed by the B-Boy/Goodtime match, then the Cholo/Azucar match. And with that, that is it for the wrestling for me, until the said “wrestling superweekend”.
