This CHAOS COLUMN is a recap of Quintessential Pro Wrestling “Well Worth the Wait” atMasonic Temple Lodge #305, Monrovia, February 1st. There were plenty of wrestlers & fans from the previous night’s PWG show, plus new ones, to fill the hall of the Freemasons’ building for the more family-friendly, non-alcohol-fueled atmosphere, where a couple of fans in attendance were celebrating birthdays. Adam Pearce, who was scheduled to face Kevin Steen that night, had a family emergency to fulfill, but a mystery opponent awaited Steen later that night.
1 – B-Boy & Willie Mack def. The RockNES Monsters (Johnny Yuma & Johnny Goodtime) Strong opener that ended with B-Boy hitting the Shining Wizard on Yuma, rolling it into Willie’s Chocolate Thunder Driver for the pin.
2 – Brian Cage p. Nick Madrid with Weapon X, capping off an otherwise dominant showing in what was otherwise a non-squash.
3 – Intergender singles match. Not only did Cheerleader Melissa try to rip off Joey Ryan’s trunks after a section of it began to rip off the waistband seam, she made him tap out to the Modified Figure-4 Leglock. Joey Ryan, though, took off the torn trunks, and gave the older of the two birthday girls an impromptu lap dance.
4 – Kyle O’Reilly made Brian Kendrick tapout to the Cross Armbreaker submission, capping off a see-saw battle that was full of technical moves.
* When Kevin Steen hit the ring after intermission, he looked at the hard camera, as well as Excalibur, who was doing commentary for the show. No music played for his opponent, but when he turned around, he saw his mystery opponent hit the ring….Chris Hero!
5 – Kevin Steen p. Chris Hero with a reversal cover in a hard-hitting match that saw both of them brawl all over the hall.
SM – Intergender tag team match between PPRay, and Candice LeRae & Christina Von Eerie; set under lucha libre rules, and 2-of-3 falls. The ladies scored the first fall when Candice rolled up and over PPA for the pin, then the guys fought back and scored the second fall, teaming up to pin Von Eerie with their team finisher. The third fall was a see-saw battle, but both ladies hit simultaneous moves on the former CWFH & AWS Tag Team champs for simultaneous pins to seal the deal. Both teams showed great sportsmanship after the bell.
M – “Impromptu” No-DQ match. Adam Thornstowe made his first defense of the QPro Heavyweight title a success, pinning Drake Younger with a Superkick through a steel chair, into a Frog Splash. This was a very even match throughout, made moreso when they started to use two steel chairs in an attempt to finish the other off. Drake was graceful in defeat, though, calling Adam back to the ring, and complemented him for the great match.
This was a very strong card for QPro, whose previous card was on Father’s Day last year, the day after a PWG show. Adam Thornstowe, to me, definitely bounced back from his shortcoming in his PWG debut, and was resilient against Drake. My MOTN goes to the said Thornstowe/Drake match, followed by the Steen/Hero match, then the intergender tag team match.
