Surprisingly, MPW owner Logan X announced that MPW will be closing it’s doors after it’s final show on October 19th.
There’s never an easy way to give bad news, unless it’s followed by good news. This for a lot of people is just going to be bad news. For the majority of 2013, my schedule has been getting even busier than it usually is. Remember, I’ve worked 2 to 3 jobs for the last 10 years so that is saying something. I’ve been kind of half ass running MPW or getting others to help or whatever for a while now. The company has reached a point where it is just treading water. We do our monthly shows, we draw a decent crowd, some far more decent than others, by the company continually loses money. This is almost by design on some levels. MPW has a wrestling school but almost every dime the school makes goes to the person actually doing the training instead of back into MPW. I figure he’s doing the work and he should get an honest wage for honest work. It’s the same approach I have towards the wrestlers. If I tell you that I’m going to pay you something I do. I have never not paid someone what was promised to them. I’ve come out of pocket many, many times to do so.
Things have changed a lot for me this year. I bought a house which feels amazing. I help start a bicycle patrol team at work and am in the process of putting a gang team. Most exciting for me is that there is a real good chance I will be a Detective in January. In addition to that my daughter made the LA Ballet Academy’s junior dance team which is an amazing thing since she is a year younger than most of the kids. The only catch to that is that all of the classes required to be on the team are going to cost me about 4 grand this year.
What I’m trying to say is that I no longer have the free time it takes to properly run this company. Therefore, Millennium Pro Wrestling will cease operations on October 19th, 2013 after our final show at the Simi Valley Boys and Girls Club. The August 31st, November 23rd and December 28th shows are cancelled.
It is an unfortunate turn of events but MPW has enjoyed 3 and a half good years and it is time to move on. Bump University will continue operations as usual. Seth Skyfire is an amazing trainer and will continue to produce complete wrestlers until he doesn’t feel like training people anymore. As for the MPW Radio show, what happens with that is up to Jay Stone.
I know that a lot of you are wondering why I didn’t talk to you personally about this first. The truth is there are only 2 people that I have really talked to about this and they are my wife and my best friend. I don’t want to be talked out of this. I don’t want other people to step up and take over parts of the company. MPW has run its course. It was a real fun ride but it is time to move on.
Does this mean I’m done with wrestling? Not necessarily but a decent break is needed. I might put another outfit together someday but it would have to be exactly that, another outfit. Whether it’s in 6 months, a year, 8 years like last time or never depends on of the right opportunity with the right people comes along. I’m not saying that the right people weren’t involved this time but the right people were not in the right roles would be a better way to put it.
If you’ve been messaging me wondering if you were booked for this show and I haven’t gotten back to you, this is why. If you were booked for this show, I’m sorry for the late cancellation but there has been virtually no promotion done for this show except for by our Webmaster who goes above and beyond constantly.
I will answer questions people have about this but probably not immediately. Today was my daughter’s first day of Second grade and we got plans to celebrate tonight. Thank you to everyone that was ever involved with MPW. We will have one hell of a goodbye show on October 19th. The card for that will be posted as soon as I can confirm the participants. There are plenty of other great places to wrestle in So-Cal and I’m sure that the evolution of the So-Cal scene will continue to go in the right direction.
