This Chaos Column is a recap ofQuintessential Pro Wrestling at Masonic Temple Lodge #305, Monrovia, June 16th 2013.
Great crowd on hand for the Father’s Day card, with some wrestlers and fans from the previous night’s PWG show staying in the region for this one. Others were coming off of the MWE show that was held at about the same time as the said PWG show in Downey.
CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT, ROUND 1
1 – Brian Cage p. Ray Rosas
Great opener that saw Brian Cage hit a 3-move finish, capping it with “Weapon X” for the pin.
2 – Eddie Edwards p. T.J. Perkins
Great back-and-forth match that ended with Eddie Edwards getting a reversal rollup for the pin.
3 – Adam Thornstowe p. Joey Ryan
More great action that ended with Adam rolling a Death Valley Driver into the Frog Splash for the pin.
4 – Kevin Steen p. B-Boy
Probably the best match of the first round to me. There were plenty of great moves by the two men who haven’t wrestled each other since 2006, but it was Steen who got the last laugh, hitting the Package Piledriver for the pin.
LADIES IN ACTION
5 – Cheerleader Melissa p. Candice LeRae
If there was something I learned from this great ladies match–something we don’t get much of here in So Cal, is that Candice’s toughness and fortitude were put to the test against the SHIMMER Champion. Candice got in some great moves throughout the lengthy match, but Cheerleader Melissa got her late, finishing it off with the Air Raid Crash for the pin. As the “elder stateswoman” of the circuit, I think Candice deserves at least one SHIMMER appearance since Buggy, Thunderkitty, & Christina Von Eerie have already made appearances there.
CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT, SEMIFINALS
6 – Brian Cage p. Eddie Edwards
Great hard-hitting action that ended with Cage hitting “Weapon X” for the pin.
7 – Adam Thornstowe p. Kevin Steen
Plenty of underhanded tactics here, especially a lot of eye pokes. Adam, though, distracted Referee Rick Knox to land a low blow to Kevin Steen, then rolled him up for the pin. Rick Knox himself got an eye poke after the match.
TAG TEAM ACTION
SM – The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) def. The RockNES Monsters (Johnny Yuma & Johnny Goodtime)
Great tag team action that ended with the brothers hitting the “Slingshot Cutler Driver” (a.k.a. the Slingshot Spike Tombstone Piledriver) on Yuma, with Matt scoring the pin.
M – Championship Tournament Final: Adam Thornstowe p. Brian Cage
Great back-and-forth action in the main event without any underhanded tactics. Adam got the initiative late, setting up Cage for the Frog Splash for the title-clinching pin. Well, it was a trophy that he got to close the show, but he should get a title belt soon enough.
I’ll give the tag team match the match of the night because the action was clean, and the crowd were most into it. The ladies match was also great, and if Candice didn’t get put over by the SHIMMER Champion, then I don’t know which other top-tier female wrestler in the indies today can. Maybe the scheduled 7/20 AWS match between Candice & MsChif (with Daffney) will give some extra clues. It’ll be interesting to see where QPro goes with their first champion crowned, but if the first two shows were anything, then it’s a given that they’ll do their best to book some of the finest wrestlers in the indies today to complement the regional pool of talent.
