This Chaos Column is a recap of Dragon Gate USA’s “Open The Golden Gate 2013” at the Lakeview Jr. High School Gym, Santa Maria. A large crowd was on hand for the 2-show feature, where the big local indie promotion held their matches first before the DGUSA iPPV.
1 – Samuray Del Sol p. EITA w/ a crazy finisher that’s a mix of Victory Roll, a Sunset Flip, and an Inverted Code Red. Very fun opener.
2 – Brian Cage p. Ray Rosas w/ a Guillontine Hold into a DDT, impressing Larry Dallas & Trina Michaels enough to recruit him into The Scene.
3 – EVOLVE Records Elimination Match between Jon Davis, AR Fox, & Chuck Taylor. Great action at the start, especially once Jon Davis got involved before being eliminated first by both AR Fox & Chuck Taylor w/ a series of signature moves. AR Fox & Chuckie T went on to duel to the end, but it was Chuck who got the last laugh, hitting AR Fox w/ the Awful Waffle for the pin, & to improve his EVOLVE record to 10-5.
4 – The Jimmy’s (Jimmy Susumu & Jimmy (Ryo) Saito) def. DGUSA Open the Freedom Gate Champion Johnny Gargano & Rich Swann in a great tag team match. Both teams exchanged all kinds of moves, but it was Jimmy Susumu who ended it by hitting the Mugen on Gargano for the pin. Slim choice for match of the night.
5 – Match between VPW Talents Damon Divine & Julian Cash ended in a No Contest, when Jon Davis laid both of them out w/ his power moves.
SM – The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) def. D.U.F. (Sami Callihan & Arik Cannon) when the brothers hit More Bang For Your Buck on Arik Cannon, w/ Matt Jackson scoring the pin.
M – John Morrison p. Akira Tozawa w/ the Starship Pain in what was a great main event. The dueling chants for JoMo & Tozawa was essentially like dueling Cena chants. The Young Bucks ran in after the match and cleared the ring out, before being cleared out themselves by AR Fox & John Morrison. Both men cut a couple of promos & thanked the fans as the show went to a close.
