This Chaos Column is a recap of EWF’s September 7th show at the Knights of Columbus Hall, in Covina. A good turnout for this month’s EWF Covina show, and the crowd saw one rollercoaster of a storyline. With Frank Mott having surgery done to address an old, lingering injury that dates back to his days as a wrestler, and Marty Elias taking time off, it was announced that “Handsome” Johnny Starr would be the interim deputy commissioner.
1 – Ricky Slade p. Joey “The Bone” Barone w/ Sliced Bread #2. Solid showing by Ricky Slade, although he has room for improvement.
* Sugar Sweet cut a promo as part of the whole interim deputy commissioner announcement, which got cut off by Johnny Starr. An attempted ambush by Red Thunder was thwarted by Sugar Sweet, who put the dress on him, to build up the 10/5 Covina show where Sugar Sweet & Red Thunder will square off again.
* A video footage of Killa Gorilla ambushing “Ironman” Mike Maze backstage at last month’s Summer Spectacular show in Corona was shown, which led to the next match.
2 – Killa Gorilla p. Mike Maze w/ what looked an Exploder Suplex, capping a dominant showing.
3 – T.J. Perkins p. Scorpio Sky w/ the Superkick, followed by his modified version of the GTS. As expected, Scorpio got plenty of “Harold” chants in the wake of his recent enhancement appearance on WWE’s “Anger Management” segments w/ Daniel Bryan & Kane. Big showstealer & match of the night.
4 – EWF Heavyweight Champion Joey Ryan & Rico Dynamite def. The Fallen Empire (Mondo Vega & Ryan Taylor) when Joey Ryan p. Ryan Taylor w/ the End Stage Superkick to counter the Perfect Circle. Joey Ryan then cut a promo, saying that there’s noone in the EWF roster that is worthy of a challenge to the heavyweight title, then spoke about defending his title against Brandon Gatson “anytime, anywhere”. Apparently, Brandon Gatson thought he could challenge him right now, especially when both of them fought it out, and referee Justin Borden called for the bell. It looked like 1 Stunner later, Brandon Gatson had won the EWF Heavyweight title, but there’s more to this, as the crowd found out later tonight.
5 – After intermission, Jeremy Jaeger p. Ein Idol (w/ Dave The Bruiser & Crystal Michelle) after Dave’s attempted Spear hit Ein instead of a dodging Jeremy.
SM – SoCal Crazy successfully defended the EWF American Championship, pinning “The Mega-King” Tommy Wilson (w/ his “queen”, Ashley Hollywood), w/ a Player-Uno like Neckbreaker–that is, a grab of an attempted kick, that was tossed to the referee (Christopher Lee, in this case), then the neckbreaker. A possible preview of their Steel Cage match for the SCP Heavyweight title at “Super Clash 2012”?
M – Brandon Gatson made Vintage Dragon tapout to the armbreaker submission. Joey Ryan interrupted the post-match festivities, claiming that the match between him & Gatson was never made official. Turned out that was the case, which was confirmed by Interim Deputy Commissioner Johnny Starr. For one, it was never announced as an official match, and because of his actions, referee Justin Borden was apparently given an indefinite suspension. So the EWF Heavyweight title was returned to Joey Ryan, who laid out Brandon Gatson, who went for a Stunner on Johnny Starr. Could there be repercussions from this going into the 10/5 show? Stay tuned.
