BTWNCHAOSNORDER’S gives a recap of Insane Wrestling League “Higher” @ American Legion Post #299, Chino, CA April 20th 2012. Large crowd was on hand for this 8-match card, of which 7 of them were part of the iPPV.
P – Magnum Pro Wrestling dark-match showcase. Ryan Kidd p. Eddie Randall w/ the 450 Splash.
1 – Johnny Saovi’s Gauntlet, Round 3/4, and this one was a 6-on-1 Handicap match. Johnny Saovi managed to def. Simon Lotto, Steven Andrews, Terex, Joseph Knox, Brian Weston, & Tyler Durken, taking advantage of infighting between the makeshift 6-man team to pin Joseph Knox w/ an Inside Cradle or Small Package Rollup, after Joseph Knox was powerslammed by an interfering Justin Ryke. Obviously, Eric Cross was pissed off, and pulled out some dog chain to unload on Saovi, before being chased off by Joey Ryan.
2 – Justin Ryke & IWL Heavyweight Champion Eric Watts successfully defended the IWL Tag Team Championship, def. The Mixtape Kings (Jerome “LTP” Robinson & Jacob Diez, w/ Christian Cole) when Eric Watts p. Jacob Diez w/ the Chokeslam.
3 – Buggy Nova p. Peter Avalon w/ a nut shot behind the back of Referee Justin Borden, then hit a Stunner/Bulldog for the pin. Obviously, she got payback from the setback at last February’s show.
4 – Eric Cross p. Joey Ryan w/ a Tree of Woe Crossout.
5 – Ray (Rrrrrrrrrr)Rosas successfully defended the IWL Anarchy Championship in a Triple Threat match, def. Famous B & Chris Kadillak w/ a chair shot to the back of Chris Kadillak, then using the same chair to assist in a Codebreaker variation on Famous B to pin him. Ray may’ve managed to cause a bigger rift between B & Kadillak too, as the two of them brawled afterwards.
SM – After intermission, B-Boy & Tyler Bateman (w/ Raze) def. The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) when B-Boy made Nick Jackson tapout to a Triangle Submission to end what was my match of the night, especially since B-Boy & Tyler picked up where they had left off in their singles match last February. With Tyler’s impressive showing here, maybe a PWG or a NWA Hollywood show is in his future (& maybe that of his Violence Unlimited partner, Funnybone, too). (Addendum: When you combine that w/ the following 1st Round exit by the Bucks at the PWG show the following night, you can see why the brothers were pissed off at the end of Saturday night.)
M – Eric Watts (w/ Christian Cole) successfully defended the IWL Heavyweight Championship, getting some assistance from Christian Cole to pin Willie Mack. Christian Cole then did a work-shoot promo on Willie Mack, claiming that all of his setbacks at his hands was “just professional wrestling….Eric Watts is professional wrestling, while you are just the underdog…a trump!” Justin Ryke later cut his own promo, and challenge his tag team partner for the big singles title, claiming that he worked his tail off, despite differences w/ IWL promoter Vic Luna, to earn the respect of the IWL fans.
Hhmmm, so it looks like at the June show, we’ll see Eric Watts defend the IWL Heavyweight title against Justin Ryke, while Eric Cross & Johnny Saovi face off in a Dog Collar match.
