Happy Birthday to SoCal Pro Wrestling, they’re turning five this year and are celebrating with a huge show in Oceanside, AWA was recently profiled in the news, this also marks the 5th Anniversary of the PWG DDT4 Tournament, Mach-1 relaunches with2 shows this weekend and Sebastian Cruz will be on my podcast this week. Plus this weekend is packed with more wrestling than you can shake a stick at. But why would you shake a stick at wrestling, really?
SoCal Pro’s first show was on April 14th less than a mile away from where the shows are held today. “We had an amazing first show that night! I don’t think many can say their first night went as smooth as ours did that night. We had guys that the locals of San Diego were familiar with from years before as well as new wrestlers that they may not have known that are still with us today 5 years later. After this show we moved to the B&GC as it was a better fit for long-term events” Dino remembers. One of the San Diego locals on that show was SoCal Crazy, who has been apart of the promotion since its inception. “I have been very lucky in finding my footing here at SoCal Pro; this company has done a lot not only for me but for a lot of the other guys as well in letting us perform in front of an awesome crowd every month. Every single person in that locker room has a very important role for the company and I truly feel blessed to be a part of it.”

AWA in the news
Recently the folks at the San Diego City Beat were in attendance at the AWA Deadline show. “A table of Larry David lookalikes enjoyed a front-row view. One of them told me I had to stick around to see Vixen, a gal he described as “the best wrestler I’ve ever seen.” A buxom wrestler from Long Beach, Vixen took on AWA world heavyweight champ SoCal Crazy in a match that was as comical as it was painful-looking.” Although the commentary wasn’t so flattering of the fans, its good to see AWA Legends getting some press.
Dynamite Duumvirate Tag Team Title Tournament
Exclusive to PWG, the DDT4 has become the premier tag team tournament. This is the 5th Anniversary of the DDT4. Previous winners are Pac & Strong (2007), Evans & Strong (2008), The Young Bucks (2009 & 2011), and ¡Peligro Abejas! (2010). This year the tag teams look to be very solid with; The Dynasty (Joey Ryan and Scorpio Sky), El Generico and Willie Mack, Future Shock (Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly), The Fightin’ Taylor Boys (Brian Cage-Taylor and Ryan Taylor), RockNES Monsters (Johnny Goodtime and Johnny Yuma), Roderick Strong and Sami Callihan, The Super Smash Bros. (Player Uno and Stupefied), The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson). The Odds on favorites have to be the Young Bucks, but with Roderick Strong has won the tournament twice, with two different partners, could Saturday be the third? If you love tag team wrestling, this will be the show for you.
Mach-1 Gets Back To It.
The much anticipated return of Mach-1 Wrestling’s first show since the Wrath of Con III, this isn’t just going to be a one off event. This will not be just a one off show, Jon and company has informed me that this is only the beginning. The Double Shot this weekend will relaunch Mach-1, with Jarek Matthews putting his Mach-1 Title on the line not once, but twice. If Jarrek can defeat Kyle Webb in the Early Show, he’s going to have to contend with “Mr. Main Event” James Morgan and the Family Stone could be in tow.
Talk NWA
This weeks TalkNWA will feature Sebastian Cruz. Cruz has appeared on WWE television as Bobby Howard and was thrashed by Mark Henry. Cruz has recently started teaming with Jullian Starr and are in pursuit of NWA North American Tag Team Champions, The Rochester Wrecking Crew. Cruz has also challenged NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion and NWA Hollywood Regular, “Modern Day Hero” Kevin Douglas. Our call in number is (646) 478-3019 or listen on-line at talknwa.com. Show starts at 10:30AM on Saturdays.
