Jay Cal’s View #46

October 22nd is shaping up to be a big day for wrestling in Southern California. Two big shows, PWG in Reseda featuring a Ladder Match and SoCal Pro in Oceanside featuring a 20-Man Battle Royal.  Joey Ryan did a podcast to talk about this weekend’s PWG event and the Wrestling Revolution Project and James Morgan is out of commission we wish him a speedy recovery.  Also the upcoming events for this weekend.

A Ladder Match Highlights PWG’s Steen Wolf.
Steen Wolf, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla’s big event this weekend is set to showcase some of the biggest names in the world of professional wrestling, many new local talents will be making their debuts for the promotion, and the show will be highlighted by a Huge Ladder Match.  I think Andrew Said it best…

Yeah. The biggest indy wrestling feud in the past few years is being rejuvenated in SoCal, in the best promotion in SoCal (or, in other people’s minds, world) for the most prestigious title in SoCal…  with a rare stipulation attached…  Not only that, but also found out … that show will feature the debut of Ray Rosas, a guy that a lot of people in this area are very high on…

This event should be one hell of a show and if you got $25 and are in the Los Angeles area, make sure you take a look at what might be the best PWG Card of the entire year.
Rumble in Oceanside: The Tradition of the Battle Royal Lives in SoCal.
I’ve always been enamored with the history of wrestling in Southern California.   My mother used to tell me about going to the Grand Olympic Auditorium with her father to watch Gorgeous George Wrestle.   One of the biggest events of the year would be the Battle Royal.  Now the Battle Royal wasn’t exclusive to Los Angeles, but was somewhat of a California Specialty.  Pre-dating the World Wrestling Federation’s  Royal Rumble or their national expansion for that matter, The Cow Palace in San Francisco, The Dome in Bakersfield, or the Grand Olympic in Los Angeles, all hosted a variety of Battle Royals.  For the third year in a row, the Rumble will return to SoCal Pro.  The Rumble in Oceanside is always one of my favorite events of the year.  The winner of the Rumble is granted a SoCal Pro Heavyweight Title shot.  I know PWG is having a huge event in Reseda this weekend and I know they’ll have a huge crowd.  But if you are looking for a different spectacular with rich history, I recommend taking the 5 South and exiting Mission for one the throwbacks to Old School Californian wrestling.  See you in Oceanside.

Joey Ryan Interview on 411Mania.com.
If you haven’t heard by now Joey Ryan played a pivotal role at the Wrestling Revolution Project.  Some have even totted his promo during the event as one of the best promos from Joey in his career and with his delivery might have punched his ticket to the next level.  I highly suggest everyone checking out www.411mania.com and giving a listen to Joey Ryan talking about not only this weekends PWG: Steen Wolf, but also about the WRP.

James Morgan out at least six to eight weeks.
I was very sad to hear of the injury James Morgan.  The first casualty of Morgan’s injury is his inability to make his scheduled match against Nick Madrid that was set to highlight the Mach-1 “Wrath of Con III” event.  I’ve said it a few times already that Morgan who has been apart of Mach-1 since inception had been having a career resurgence and had been having a banner year.  On a personal side Morgan although nefarious inside of the ring, is truly one of the kindest individuals I’ve had the privilege to meet.  I wish him a speedy recovery and I am really looking forward to  seeing “Mr. Main-Event” back in the ring soon.
