Jay Cal’s View #45

This week in Jay Cal’s View we send our condolences to EWFJeff.  What was the biggest story in the past 5 years?  And Scorpio Sky might not be the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion, but hasn’t lost his swagger.  Rocky Romero wins gold in Japan, again.  And the upcoming shows for this week.Deepest condolences to the family Jeff Hanula
Also known as EWFJeff was a controversial figure on the Message Board quick to stand up for the EWF.  And continued to be quite the spitfire after his professional relationship with the Empire Wrestling Federation ended.  Jeff wasn’t unlike most posters on this board.  He was passionate about wrestling and was loyal to his favorite promotion.  Jeff had began working for EWF as a ring announcer and later on the website.  Jeff passed away October the 10th 2011.

It is with my deepest condolences to the Hanula Family for the loss of Jeff Hanula, who passed away Monday October 10th in Princeton Illinois. Jeff to many of those that may remember him was known as EWF Jeff. He was our friend and brother in wrestling. He will be missed by all of us that knew him, and he will forever live in our memory. RIP Jeff Hanula as we will always remember the way you used to say Heyyy mann.   Sincerely,

–Jesse Hernandez

Biggest story in SoCal over the last five years?
The illustrious Steve Bryant posted this question a little over five years ago on the Message Boards.  The Question was fairly simple, what were the biggest stories five years ago?  We’ve embarked on the ten year mark on that window of what was the biggest moments in SoCal. Reading through the post people mentioned UPW losing their WWE Developmental deal, Rev Pro Closing, XPW going to the East Coast, The Messiah being brutally attacked, The Death of APW Student, the rise and fall of Epic and more.  Looking back what would be the biggest story in the past five years from now?  Would NWA Hollywood being on Television for an entire be considered big news.  Or that Pro Wrestling Guerrilla has continuously promoted the best wrestling shows in Southern California?  Would you care to post your thoughts on the topic, please share on the message board.

Scorpio Sky: Train, go out, do it big, airport, show, pop the crowd…
Scorpio Sky was chosen to represent Southern California for the NWA Revival event this past Friday Night in Charlotte North Carolina.  The Tournament was to crown a new NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion.  Alliance-Wrestling.com has the video of Scorpio Sky taking on Mike Posey (former WWE Referee) in the opening round of the World Junior Heavyweight Tournament.  Sky would lose into the second round to Chase Owens.  Sky would then come back to wrestle at NWA Hollywood on Sunday having another successful defense.  The NWA Hollywood Television Champion defends the title for the first time at the Empire Wrestling Federation event on Friday against Freddy Bravo.

Rocky Romero returns to New Japan and wins Championship
Rocky Romero joined by Davey Richards who teamed together in Ring of Honor as the No Remorse Corps. defeated Apollo 55 (Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi) for the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships.  Richards used the Contract Killer on Devitt to become the 29th champions.  Rocky had a taste of being a champion in new Japan when under the Black Tiger Mask IV hood, was a dual NWA World Junior Heavyweight and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion when he feuded with Tiger Mask IV.   Romero is scheduled to return to Southern California for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla’s Steen Wolf has he takes on long time friend/rival TJ Perkins, whom just recently signed with Ring of Honor.
