Jay Cal’s View #40

Number 40 is in the books and what a weekend of wrestling.  Certainly no shortage of shows this week, I’ll be making my way out to NWA Championship Wrestling from Hollywood.  Congrats to Shaun Ricker for winning the EWF Heavyweight Championship, is he the best kept secret in Hollywood?  Gary Yap posts a pretty interesting question, I’d love to hear what everyone thinks.  Vendetta Pro is making their September 2 Remember available via Stream.  The Super Smash Brothers are taking SoCal by Storm and it reminds me of the old days, plus this week’s upcoming events.

Shaun Ricker new Empire Wrestling Federation Champion
A title that dates back to 1996, Shaun Ricker adds his name to the ikes of Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, Aaron Aguilera, Brandon Gatson, Scorpio Sky and the man he defeated for the EWF Heavyweight Championship, Ryan Taylor.  Ricker has worked almost exclusively as a tag team competitor with former partner Bryan Cage.  As a duo, they are a two time NWA Pro/Mach-1 Heritage Tag Team Champions.  But recently the duo has parted ways (most noticeably in NWA Hollywood).   Ricker’s campaign for the EWF Heavyweight Title began with victories over Scorpio Sky and Josh Dunbar.  To see the show in its entirety, visit Ringscoops.com

Gary Yap does it again
You know when someone makes a mistake and you see other people burying someone and you sort of come up with your own conclusion on a person, with out really taking the time to understand them.  And you go forward with a conclusion that probably isn’t fair.  And you just discredit whatever they say or do, because you’ve got this opinion of someone that isn’t entirely accurate?  I guess I owe Gary an apology.  For a couple of weeks I’ve been reading Gary’s Twitter Feed and I think perhaps I have had the wrong idea of him.  Gary posted something interesting on the board recently with Are the days of the wrestling message board over?   Gary who sometimes has seemed so controversial asks a very simple question.  Go read and post what you views.  Gary has done this a couple of times, posts something on the board that at the least is a great discussion starter.  So publicly, I’d like to thank Gary and apologize.  I still don’t see eye to eye with him on everything, but I appreciate what he’s trying to do.

Can’t make the Vendetta Pro’s Setember 2 Remember?

Super Smash Bros. Invade SoCal!
In the days of the Territory, wrestlers would travel to different regions for months at a time.  A guy like Freddie Blassie would spend six months wrestling in Georgia, before relocating to Southern California and becoming a future legend that SCU would recognize nearly 40 years later.

That’s why I find it interesting when a wrestler or in this case a duo come out to SoCal and wrestle for a couple of different companies while they are here.  While in Southern California The Super Smash Bros. will be taking part in at least three announced match ups.  The first starts Friday Night in Anaheim as the SSB will be wrestling Joey Ryan and Scorpio Sky the Dynasty.  Then the next night, the dream match for gaming fans at Super Smash Bros. will take on The RockNES Monsters, Yuma and Goodtime.  The last announced match for the duo will be at SoCal Pro’s SuperClash, next Saturday.  With any luck there may even be more opportunities to see the duo here in SoCal, but make sure you check them out while they are still here.

A Salute to Service Men and Women
Do you remember where you were 10 years ago on September 11th?  Far be it for me to start a patriotic conversation on SCU, but I can still remember where I was ten years ago Sunday.  Getting ready for work, watching Good Day LA, hoping to get a laugh out of Jillian before I started my day at work.  What I saw on Television sure didn’t get a laugh out of me.  The sheer chaos really rocked me.  And having friends in the Military made me very concerned.  Ten years after the tragedy, I really respect the wrestling promotions who are offering discounted or free tickets for those who serve.  Its the least we can do for people who have fought for our freedoms and work for our safety.
