The Inoki Dojo recently celebrated its fourth Anniversary with a tremendous show and the NJPW Best of American Super Juniors is fast approaching. WPW’s Best of the West 2006 saw some amazing action and startling upsets. And now AWS returns from War Games with MAYhem: A Fight for the Belt, featuring three exciting titles matches and much more!
Main Event – AWS Heavyweight Championship
Champion: Human Tornado
Challenger: Al Katrazz (w/C. Edward Vander Pyle)
The Human Tornado’s reign as AWS Champion has been nothing short of
spectacular. His steel cage victory over former champion Adam Pearce in October is still being talked about as one of the greatest matches in Frank ‘N’ Sons history. His outsmarting of The Plague at Five for Five; Vol. 2 proved that he could hang with men twice his size. Now, Tornado faces his toughest challenge to date. After sneaking past Al Katrazz by DQ at AWS: Turkey Sandwich 2005 with an Eddie Guerrero honoring chair trick, Tornado now must face the big man from the big house again. At Best of the West 4, Al Katrazz defeated longtime rival Babi Slymm to become number one contender to the AWS strap. Al Katrazz has stated on more than one occasion that he is the man who built AWS with an unprecedented four AWS Tag Team Title reigns and more main events than anyone else in company history. Now he looks to finally capture the one thing that has eluded him – the AWS Heavyweight Title! Tornado vs. Katrazz! Now that, my friends, is MAYhem!
AWS LA Lightweight Championship
Champion: Lil’ Cholo
Challenger: TJ “Pinoy Boy” Perkins
For the first time in years, these two incredible athletes will step into the ring together. Perkins, fresh off winning the 2006 Best of the West, is one of the highest rated young fighters anywhere in the sport as he continues to garner international acclaim and respect. Cholo, the AWS LA Lightweight Champion and a former BOTW winner himself, has done almost everything that a cruiserweight can do in Southern California. Cholo looks to take his game to an even higher level with a victory over Perkins. This match could be what he needs to explode on the rest of the NWA. Perkins has other ideas for the match and knows that this title match is an incredible opportunity to further his already blossoming career.
AWS Tag Team Championship
Champions: Midnight Dynamite (Johnny Paradise & Charles Mercury)
Challengers: Bump ‘n’ Grind (Brawlin’ Bo Cooper & The Legendary Sexy Chino)
The duo affectionately known as Merc & Jerk have established themselves at the top of the AWS tag team mountain by not only defeating longtime champions Los Chivos for the AWS Tag Team Titles, but also by defeating every team that has been put before them in the past half year. Their dominance of the tag team scene got to the point that in April they blindly issued an open challenge to any team in wrestling including Demolition, the Rock ‘N’ Roll Express, Bockwinkle & Stevens and more. The challenge was immediately answered by the Legendary Sexy Chino, who had won a match earlier in the day with Playboy R2K as his partner. Believing this to be the team accepting the challenge, Midnight Dynamite began laughing. The laughing stopped though when Chino announced that his partner would actually be the man who is lewd, rude and tattooed – Brawlin’ Bo Cooper! Has Midnight Dynamite finally bitten off more than they can chew? Come and see for yourself!
Submissions Match
Scorpio Sky vs. Alex Koslov
The bad blood between Alex Koslov and Scorpio Sky has flowed in the Frank ‘N’ Sons arena for months. Their series of matches has seen time limit draws, last second pinfalls, and submissions by both men. Koslov’s “Red Scare” finisher is one of the most devastating holds in wrestling as Koslov found out himself when Sky turned it around on him at their last meeting. The enraged Sky took it upon himself to challenge Koslov to a Submission Match the next time they meet which Koslov promptly ignored. But AWS Kingpin Bart Kapitzke would have none of it and declared the match would happen! Some thought this might have happened during either the BOTW or BOASJ tournaments, but a stomach virus kept Sky out of the BOTW. NWA Pro and AWS officials have stated that should the two meet at the BOASJ, the match will NOT be a submission match. Instead, that honor will take place at Frank ‘N’ Sons Arena at AWS where it belongs! Two men enter and one man will tap out!
Special Attraction – Grudge Match
Aaron Aguilera (w/El Jefe) vs. “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce (w/Vander Pyle)
After years of friendship violently exploded late in 2005, 2006 has seen Aaron
Aguilera and Adam Pearce go toe-to-toe in several major matches. Pearce was able to eliminate Aguilera in questionable fashion during the 8-Man Elimination Match at New Year’s Eve Brawl, which coincidentally is the closest thing to victory Pearce has tasted in the past several months of AWS competition. Even so, Pearce was ultimately on the losing end of that match, as well as at the climax of War Games as Aguilera pinned a bloody and beaten Pearce in the middle of the steel cage. Two of the most decorated and respected competitors in SoCal wrestling will do battle once again. Will this be the one that settles the score or will the warfare continue? Can Pearce snap his shocking streak of losses?
Babi Slymm vs. Karl “Machine Gun” Anderson
Babi Slymm’s career has been a roller coaster lately. After being taken out by the Plague, Slymm got his revenge on the big man in their much talked about tables match at AWS: Smashing Tables. Then he found himself on the winning side in War Games only to have the rug pulled from under him in April as Al Katrazz stole victory from him to become the number one contender to Human Tornado’s AWS Heavyweight Title. Now he finds that another title shot has been taken away from him as NWA British Commonwealth Champion Karl “Machine Gun” Anderson has used the Champion’s Prerogative to keep this bout a non-title match. While many may see this as cowardly on Anderson’s behalf, no one can deny that he has been a fighting champion with recent defenses against Alex Koslov, Bo Cooper, and an 18-minute classic with Chad Wicks at the Inoki Dojo’s 4th Anniversary Show. Certainly a victory by Slymm would automatically line him up for a British Commonwealth Title Match, one of the most internationally respected titles in the entire NWA. Anderson on the other hand knows that a victory over Slymm would ensure his standing as one of the top wrestlers in AWS today.
The Plague & Crayz (w/Vander Pyle) vs. the debuting Young Bucks
Vander Pyle’s attempt to regain control of his Armada after the loss at AWS: Total War has gone well so far. Al Katrazz has a shot at the AWS Title, Adam Pearce gets to go another round with arch rival Aaron Aguilera, and now the team of the maniacal Crayz and the massive Plague will get their shot to get back on the winning track against AWS newcomers Mr. Instant Replay and Slick Nick, The Young Bucks. The Bucks have done everything in their power to make a name for themselves in SoCal including taking the AWS Tag Team Champions, Midnight Dynamite, to a time limit draw at a Battle Ground Pro show in March. But a non-title draw against Merc & Jerk and a victory over these two monsters are two completely different things. Will the Young Bucks prove that they belong in AWS or will their stay be short lived?
Also, many of you know that perennial AWS and UPW competitor Brandon “Lionheart” Hill suffered neck injuries versus Lil’ Cholo at the BOTW. He has struggled to test his neck in a limited capacity at other area shows, and it is our understanding that his doctors have advised against wrestling for the foreseeable future to allow his fractured vertebrae to heal to a point where they can determine how severe his nerve damage is. Lionheart has asked for, and AWS Kingpin Bart Kapitzke has granted, an opportunity to address the fans who have stood by him and sent their best wishes to him throughout this ordeal. This will also take place on May 20th.
So don’t hesitate and don’t wait to hear about it from a friend. BE THERE on May 20th at the world famous Frank ‘N’ Sons Arena, the home of the best SoCal wrestling action. All three AWS titles will be on the line, plus four more colossal match-ups! NWA Pro Wrestling at the Alternative Wrestling Show present MAYhem!
