I arrived at Frank and Sons at 1:25 and wasable to snag a seat in the
second row. The show was only 5 minutes late which I found extremely
nice.
First out was Funky Billy Kim (yes he was billed as FBK) vs. Eric
Matlock.
It was a great opener, I thought. Kim gave Matlock one of the
meanest,
loudest chops I’ve ever heard on the outside. It looks as thugh Kim
had
the match won several times, but in the end Matlock got the win with a
frog splash.Next out was Ronin vs. Steve Pain. I’d never seen Pain live but had heard
some decent things. It was another great match, the highlights were
Pain’s moonsault to the outside, a belly to belly on Ronin, and Ronin hit
a rather cool looking jumping spinning DDT on Pain, very nice. Match
ended in a foul way though when Ronin kicked out, the ref only hit te mat
twice, but then called for the 3 count and the bell.
Brawlin’ Bo Cooper vs. Tornado was up next. Tornado’s always entertaining
and I don’t get why he isn’t bigger in the scene yet, ah well all in due
time I suppose. Tornado flipped out of the ring and flew completely over
Bo Cooper, landing in the chairs behind him. Talk about a Holy Shit
moment. Another surprising part of the match was Bo giving Sylvia,
Tornado’s manager, a mean looking Bronco Buster, looks like he crippled
the girl. In the end Cooper reversed a Tornado DDT into a DVD to pick up
the win. Highly entertaining match from two EXTREMELY different wrestlers. Bo and
Tornado are both highly entertaining.
Next up Bart did a 10-Bell salute for Bossman, Vanderpyle’s mother, and
one other person whom I forget.
Next up was a Tale of Two Boshes (Bosh and Ryan both wearing Bosh
tights…Love at first grapple? I think so.) vs. Quicksilver and Li’l
Cholo. Cholo is someone I’ve only seen a few times before but I was
extremely surprised by his arsenal of moves. He does things in the ring
I’ve never seen before, including the most creative backbreaker I’ve ever
had the pleasure of seeing. Of course the most awkward move in this match
was Bosh’s extended… All I can think of it a crotch bite. It lasted at
least 5 seconds, a bit too long for comedic value. In the end Quicksilver/Cholo picked up the win.
“The Natural” Kenny King vs. “The Natural HEEL” Scott Lost was up next. I
love Scott Lost. Completely in a masculine/heterosexual way, I assure
you. He’s one of the best in-ring workers SoCal has to offer. I had
never seen King before but was fully impressed. King was suplexed to the
outside, but the spot of the match that got the crowd’s reaction was when
Scott was whipped into the pole and he booted the camera man, whom many
behind me shouted was TrueFan. Funny moment. King took the win with a
move I’m assuming is called the All Natural. The match was pretty good.
Jakal/Black Metal vs. Dante/Xtreme Loco… What can I say? I found this
to be the worst match on the card. I wasn’t impressed at all. Black
metal, Jakal, and Dante were good enough in this match, however I did not
enjoy watching Xtreme Loco wrestle at all. Dante, however, was a bright
spot. He had quite an array of impressive moves. In all this, to me, did
not live up to the rest of the card. Jakal and Black Metal got the win
with a double chokeslam.
Next up Misterioso and Super Boy challenged Al Katrazz and Skulu for the
tag belts. THIS was an entertaining tag match. Watching Skulu and Super
Boy partake in the battle of the bellies was extremely fun to watch. The
crowd ate it up. Super Boy is surprisingly agile for a man of his size
and was able to pull off a Senton Bomb AND a moonsault on Skulu. The
Moonsault for the win and the belts.
Next up was an intergender singles match as Disco Machine took on Nikki.
I will say this, Heel Disco Machine is highly entertaining. Watching him
walk through the crowd telling everyone to move out of his way to he can
lay a beating, only to walk away to somewhere else and demand others move
is priceless. Nikki held up her end well, even delivering a baseball
slide/dropkick to the outside on Disco. In the end Disco won it with a
chokeclam.
After intermission we had Scorpio vs. Slymm for the AWS title. Vanderpyle
was in effect yesterday and was as funny as ever. R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Find
out what it means to Baby Slymm. Scorpio was a great contender in his
flashy, sparkly new ring attire. He flew quite a big, onto both
Vanderpyle AND Slymm, however the move of the match was SLymm simply
swinging Scorpio into the chairs in the crowd. DIdn’t look to feel so
hot. Slymm picked up the win to retain the title.
Next up was Blue Panther vs. Dos Caras. I’ll be honest, I did not enjoy
this match. I’m not much of a classic Luche Libre guy. It smacks of
gymnastics rather than fighting to me. That being said, the balance these
men have is simply amazing. Dos Caras took the win.
Main event of Adam Flash/Messiah/Wifebeater (Who look as though he was
drinking bourbon backstage before the match) vs. Supreme/Mongol/Kaos with
Diablo was an entertaining Hardcore bout. Mongol looking to be
legitimately injured in the match and was carried to the back. Next
someone “joined” Supreme’s team to even up the odds. I don’t know who it
was but he turned on Supreme and Kaos anyways. Diablo got it with the
barbed wire, there were chairs, light tubes for Supreme, a table, and even
a computer keyboard. Bart called for a steel cage death match between
Supreme and Messiah at the next show to settle it.
Overall a great match, highly entertaining. Worst match was Black
Metal/Jakal vs. Xtreme Loco/Dante, and the best match honors, to me, go to
Bosh/Ryan vs. Cholo/Quicksilver.
This show makes me definitely want to attend another AWS show,as this was
my first, and I cannot wait.
